Long time lurker

I lurk at quite a few forums and post rarely on CZForum. But this is the best of them all so I decided to finally join.

The wife and I both carry and like to shoot when we have time - mostly handgun and shotgun. My current interest is in learning how to be a decent rifleman. I really need to get my butt to an appleseed.

The St. Louis suburbs are home and Benchrest Club is where I do most of my shooting.

questions, introduction, advice

I enjoy shooting and i am looking to expand to hunting with a bow, shotgun, & rifle. I moved to orange county from westchester county. I am wondering about the qualifications for a full carry permit in orange county. Also i am a veteran looking for work in the armed security field. No i do not have a security clearance. But i have nothing that would restrict me from getting one either. I own a vehicle so getting to and from work is not a problem. I am looking at working security at a nuclear power plant or something that pays decent. I have also worked in the correctional field when i was living in South Carolina. I have also worked for an armored car company. So any advice offered would be greatly appreciated. I am 38 yrs old. My age is being given so any responders can direct me to jobs that will not have age restrictions or ones that i can use my time in the military to knock a few yrs off my age for test purposes. I am also a traveling man for those that understand. I am always traveling East in search of more Light..............

Greetings from N. Michigan, the original land of "here hold my beer and watch this!"

I shoot paper, critters and Snakeheads (once they get here).
Been known to whittle a little wood over the years.
I figured since I registered 2 1/2 years ago I would say hello.

Hello!

Oh crap WEG's here!

This is a great thread for all the lurkers to finally become members.

To everyone that has introduced themselves, welcome aboard!
Thanks Black Majik,

My Ranger Buddies call me Edge but that name is already taken on THR. Mamu is the Miskito word for otter, a name they gave me when I was among them.

I'm an old guy. Joined THR today after ending up here a bunch while googlin'. I like to shoot and collect guns and knives.

My primary interest in shooting is 3-gun; however, I just started Cowboy shooting. I like to hunt and fish. I am, for lack of a better definition, a Constitutional Patriot. That's what I've taken to calling Americans lately.

It's good to be here among you all...

Hello,

I've decided to join after countless times finding good info here based on internet searches. I've always been into firearms (mostly modern) and I believe strongly in the 2nd Amendment. Now that it looks like I might be getting a job, I hope to become more involved with long range shooting as I don't think I would spend as much on ammo, but we'll see. Maybe I'll even do the CMP thing and get a Garand.

I'm a Texas resident as I'm sure many of you are and I FWIW I don't join many forums.

Thanks for having me

Finally decided to join. I have been sent here from other forums often to look for answers, and have often navigated here due to google search results. Figured I may as well join up and contribute.

I thoroughly enjoy all shooting sports. Been shooting since I was a little kid sitting on the back porch with my Dad. Hope to be able to learn a little and teach a little here.

New, Too!!

Hello All. I am a reformed Lurker. I have followed many forums on many topics and have concluded THR to be a strong favorite so I decided to speak up.

I am interested in all things interesting and have a passion for firearms that started with dad and my first air rifles at 5 or 6 years old.

Haven't done as much hunting as I'd love to, but have experience with, and a good basic knowledge of, most pistols, rifles and shotguns.

Happy to be here and look forward to many stimulating hours of gun chat and learning something new every day.

New poster

Hi, been lurking for a couple years but just posted today because it was about a local business. I was drawn to this forum because of the 1911 information and great pictures. I am a big 1911 fan and have many I shoot and a few I look at! Mostly shoot handguns and a little class III stuff. Really enjoy reading posts and looking at the beautiful work posted in pics!

I've done a few posts now. I've thought about posting something here for a while, and finally decided to do it. I don't know if anybody bothers reading this stuff, but here goes:

I AM an old guy - - - I've been around some. I'm a veteran; like a few hundred thousand other men and women - - - so that doesn't make me special. It puts me in good company though, because it doesn't matter where, when or which war - - - our experiences were a lot the same and that connects us all. It also makes us a little different.

I was a Park Ranger. I've spent a lot of time in the woods. I think I've been blessed with sights and experiences many others have missed. I still spend a lot of time in the woods with and without my wife. She's a naturalist and can spend hours with various mushrooms and flowering plants - - - she loves bogs. I love fishing - - - using a Kayak rather than a Bass boat.

I like guns I guess. But I have to tell you; not a brag; just fact; I've taken all kinds of game, large and small, with a .30-30. I'm never overly impressed with the newest and latest 'best' - - - I know too, that a .270 is adequate for just about everything except big bears. I've owned a Weatherby .340, but sold it. I like handguns.

I shoot CMP competition and other NRA stuff with handguns - - - not fancy ones; You can either shoot or you can't.

I've also studied Martial Arts.

hi

A sadder weapons' tale than mine you'll seldom hear. I grew up with guns (rifles and shottys). I have first prize for marksmanship (.22) - also excellent shot at skeet but I didn't do any serious comps with that.

The sad part is I can only read about your shooting and your guns. Currently I live in the UK (originally I'm from Australia/NZ) - ok 'join a UK gun club...' Well chaps, no - kinda like riding horses here - (unless you own a farm or something) have to wear a black fur hat, sit up straight, don't pull the reins, blah, blah, blah. Sure I believe in safety but I like to relax too.

So yeah, you lucky sobs, I remember the smell of gun smoke with fondness... ahhh, and a greater degrees of freedom.

Anway I'm here because the closest I get to firing guns these days is 3d games. I make animations for them -as a hobby- so I'll be asking you lucky people [luck:your fight for freedom is ongoing, I realize) - asking about sounds, recoil and other idiosyncrasies of various heavy weapons (heavy to me) that I've never used. I didn't enjoy using heavy weapons (like .300 + and shottys I mean!) especially when I was out shooting on private land [rabbits and stuff] - too loud - and I often used a .22 silenced with short-rifle ammo). Besides that with heavier guns I don't like the recoil, noise or expense. I also enjoyed a .22 semi-auto with 15 shot mag for drilling holes in stuff.

Heaviest I used was my dad's .243 and a friend's ex German army Mauser (.305?) and man, that was heavy. I have never fired a pistol or an automatic. Sigh, I am so deprived.

Finally for the game I'm animating for, I've made a blunderbuss (aka coachgun) a muzzle loading flintlock, just to be different. I think I'll asking for unusual type guns ideas as well...

Oh yeah - a guy around here has a .22 air-rifle - gas filled. He fills it from a diver's tank he has. I sniggered to myself at first - .22 gas gun haha. But from what he says it's more powerful than a .22 (firearm). And it's nearly silent. Has to have a licence for it, but you need a licence for a fishing rod here. TV as well.

I'm not laughing :D

Great site this, lots of good reads! Thanks all!

Hi, i headed on over here from HKPro.com.

I am an ex US Army infantryman who worships at the altar of the HK P7, i think 5.56mm is a great military round, and i really don't like Glocks. ;)

Nice to meet you all!!!

Hello from Central Florida,

I've been a lurker for a bit here, researching and looking around. I prefer a site like this where the moderators do remove unnecessary attacks and rudeness towards others.

I grew up around guns, have always been around guns, believe and follow the Four Rules but until fairly recently I did not personally own any. I'm mid-age, female, and I've shot enough to know that gun purchases, especially for conceal carry are very personal. For the past 4 years I've attended a Ladie's Day Event at a private gun range here, getting a feel for what I like for myself as well as completing my CCW training and receiving my license. I encourage all my female co-workers to attend it, especially if they have any type of gun in their house. This year after my day at the range (they give everyone note pads and pens to take notes, have NRA instructors at every station) I was asked by my dad what gun I really liked. The range instructors had some VERY nice guns, Sigs, HKs, alot with custom enhancements, etc. I said hands down the Walther PPK .380. I liked a lot of different ones but the Walther felt right, was pleasant to shoot and I emptied the 6 shot clip quickly and accurately. He bought me the Walther.

I shot mine this past Sunday and love it. The slide is a little tight but I plan to run a lot more rounds through it before I actually carry it.

I also like shooting my brother's blued Ruger Mark II .22LR, Ruger Single Six .22 and his Glock G22 .40. I love the Single Six and the Mark II is sweet, he doesn't like me to shoot his Glock.

I called the local gunshop and they had the Single Six in stainless so I went after work Monday...I chatted (I'm Southern so it may have been a little flirty, just friendly banter) with the gun guy for a little while and had done research on prices/etc, I had an idea of what was reasonable for prices from research, their prices where reasonable to begin with, I had my notes in a little notepad I keep in my purse...well...after a little discussion...I told him I was really only there for the Single Six, but would buy the others if he could do a little better..and dangit he did...I ended up with Ruger Mark III stainless Hunter with Fluted sides, Ruger Single Six Stainless .22LR/.22Magnum and a very nice stainless Taurus PT101 .40. That evening I showed my brother my purchases and well...now I have his blued .22 guns and he has the stainless (I knew it!! he even paid me and gave me his blued guns :) and yes he has a CCW and clean background to legally own them) He even complimented me on my haggling. I told him I didn't haggle, either they wanted to sell it or not, I was getting the Single six, the others could stay there. I may let him shoot my Taurus...he can provide the ammo...since he really prefers me NOT to shoot his Glock.

I love shooting we are planning on going again this weekend, dad lives on some acerage in a rural area and we have a little range setup near the swampy part. Just wish it wasn't so awfully hot.

Happy and Safe shooting to everyone and I look forward to participating, well...mostly reading and gleaning information.

Hello all. New member here. Just got my first gun in January (Remington 870). I have my permit to purchase a handgun, and will hopefully be doing that soon. After that, concealed carry. I've been reading the forums here for a few months, and there's a lot of excellent info here by some very knowledgable folks!

Hello THR, I'm a newbie but I've been reading these threads for the last two years. I'm a avid hunter and a little bit of a gun nut (which seems to be ok around here : ) I'm 30 years old and am finally financially secure enough to start building a decent arsenal... right now I have a "poor mans arenal" as I like to call it. I own a Savage 110 30.06, Mosin Nagant, Yugo SKS, Ruger 10/22, Remington 870 12ga. MPA Mini Mac 11 9mm, Ruger P95, Ruger LCP,
I have the upmost respect for THR and all members, I have learned SO much from many of you and I am humbled to now be amongst you. I look forward to learning more as I expand my gun safe.

dumb question, i thought Canadian citizens werent allowed AR-15's ?
Hello The-Fly im from the great white north
and of course we can own restricted AR-15's
but magazines must be pinned at 5 rounds
and a "restricted" licence is required not just "non-restricted"

Hello from SC

I have been a member here for about 2 months, I think, and have realized that I have not formerly introduced myself. My name is Matthew and I live a little south of Charleston, South Carolina. I love the outdoors, and hope to share that common bond with y'all.

I'm originally from Finland, moved to Florida in the early eighties and never looked back. Trying to get back into shooting and reloading after a long pause, also would like to get some of the guns I still have in Finland imported here but for some odd reason they don't look kindly mailing Valmet m76's overseas??? What's up with that?

Hi there

Guess this is the closest to an open topic area I could find in order to introduce myself!

This seems to be a great place, I found you guys looking for a tutorial on how to assemble an S&W revolver and this is the place that had what I was looking for and more!

I live in Puerto Rico, brother and I are huge gun fans and make our way to the range every week and too often to the LGS to get more "toys".

I like ALL type of guns and yes I think that Glocks are beautiful!

I am an artist, pay the bills taking pictures for Ad Agencies, not too much work there this days but I am too stubborn to quit!

here's some of my work.
