Well to start I am a new member,I was given some very nice arms by my father to start a collection which include a 1929 4-didget ser.#Colt super 38, Remington Rand 45,Colt Agent 38,Ruger mark 1. I have added to them a lever action Ruger 270,Remington model 700 270,stevens wood stock 22/410,Remington 16 guage 870 wingmaster [barrel code zz 1953?] Remington 514 [barrel code KE 1936?],along with several 10/22's,single shot, and semi-auto 22s,assorted 12,16,and 20 guage shotguns,and several more handguns.That should cover armory,next,I enjoy older motorcycles and own a few.Favorite of course is my 1959 BMW [hence the user name]also have a couple Goldwings,suzuki cavalcade,R75 BMW,R100 BMW,180 Jawa,Honda Valkerie,Honda C-100,Honda elite 250 scooter,2 chinese scooters,and several Solex mopeds.Anyway glad to be here!!

This is the first forum i have ever joined... originally from CA, have Juris Doctorate, Constituional Law from there. Moved to New York ten years ago.Dont practice here. Family man, have 5 kids, all the boys collect, hunt and shoot... mostly get me to pay for it..

Have extensive collection of a bit of everything. Shoot Browining Hi-Power, Sig 226 and Colt Combat Commander. I would assume you all know the calibers...use these in Combat Shooting..

Do love the AR-Platform, use HBAR for night time Hog Hunts...use Shorty for competition. Use both for a good day at the range. Get to shoot at least once a week.

Shoot Ram, Goat and Antelope with 25-06 Ruger Number 1 Varmint Special.. and love my ancient 1894 30-30 for Walk and Stalk Hog hunts...

So, in short form.. love the sport and am very impressed with the caliber (no pun intended) of people involved.

Have owned and been shooting guns since I was 7.

Love those S.M.L.E.'s I have(had) 2 my 1956 Pakistani( full stock, bolt forced to receiver) and the one I gave one of my daughters a 1912 Lithgow ( the stock is sporterized).Her favorite hunter!

Hello everyone! I enjoy a lot of outdoor activities especially along the lines of camping and ATV riding. I have been into firearms since I was 10 and have just kept learning as much as I could. Modern firearms have been my niche for a while but hopefully I can keep learning!
 
I am a returning shooter following a 33-1/2 year hiatus (marriage will sometimes do that). Now, after spending more years than she will admit, my wife and I are both proficient shooters with handguns. I am working on my rifle and shotgun proficiency, too.

Now I am looking for information on both long guns and handguns. I am reading all that I can in paper form, and am looking for more information online, too.

I have been a non-registered lurker for awhile. It seems whenever I have a question or want to do more research on a topic, thr.org always pops up in the searches, so I figured I should go ahead and sign up.

Big fan of 1911s and rifles (both modern and historical) as well as shotguns. Right now trying to get an old co-worker of mine to sell me his old M1 carbine he bought back in like 1968 (yes, I've read the thread here dedicated to that topic).

Can't wait to waste even more time at work by reading posts here! :D

My name is Mac and I'm a big fun of all things guns. I shoot IDPA, USPSA, and F-Class. I occasionally dabble in Skeet and Trap but my passion is competing with handguns and rifles. I reload all my own ammo on a Dillon 650 and love it.
 
Hi all, I am a certified gun nut and love to shoot short ones, long ones, anything that goes boom :)

I can out shoot the ex, but he still brags that he 'taught me all he knows' LOL

I turned 51 this year :eek: and have been recovering from a back injury the past 2 years ... do NOT want surgery, so chiro says probably another year of taking it easy, building up the muscles again, then I can start RUNNING & GUNNING again! The bad thing about getting older is that it takes so much longer to heal from injuries!

I still get in range time at the outdoor range at least once a month ~ 20-40mph winds on any given day LOL

I have small paws, so I am more comfortable with smaller 1911 frames, but can shoot full size no prob. I also enjoy my replica Navy Colt and have the cutest little birdhead .22 revolver!

I also have a GAS (gun acquisition syndrome) for mil-spec ... M1, M1A1 (3 and one is a Rock Ola! with import stamps), AR15 (DPMS), SKS. The last 2 are EVBs :D

And, then there is my lever-action ... oooooh, I got the Puma (won it!) and said Marlin-who and promptly traded that one off LOL And I got one of the last true LA Winchesters.

Shottys are Beretta, Benelli, and the tactical H&R ... still need a breakover for the CAS.

From granddad I got 2 Remingtons NIB 700s in .308 and .264 Mag, and a pair of pump Winchester .22s from 1930s.

I also have several other .22 rifles that are great for teaching kids.

Right now, we are sticking with the following calibers: .22, 9mm, .30 carbine, .308/7.62x39, .38/.357, .44, .45, and 12ga and 20ga as those are pretty common JICSHTF calibers :D

I take all calibers to the range and practice at the max distance for each piece. I figure if I am accurate at the max, I can hit anything closer!

I have taken tactical shooting classes and really liked them, so I am also looking to get started with IDPA next year, too.

I love shooting and looking to get into competitive handgun and 3 gun shooting. Currently i am on a quest to find a limited/standard gun to compete with. I think i have decided to go with a 2011 model but am still decided on who i will have build the sucker.

RevGeo here. You can call me George if you want. I'm an avid rifleman and the son of an even more avid rifleman. I live out in the woods in a secluded valley within the Selkirk mountains of North Idaho. I've been shooting and reloading for over 40 years.
I'm pretty much a traditionalist who likes classic blued, wooden stocked rifles.
Never cared for the look of synthetic/stainless rifles. If the weather is crappy enough to worry about my rifle I ain't goin' huntin'. But whatever trips anyone else's trigger is none of my nevermind.
I'm a semi-retired disabled Viet Nam vet and a private music teacher. I love to hunt and fish. I hunt deer, elk, bear, grouse and turkey, mainly. I fish for trout, steelhead and pretty much whatever swims in the available waters.

I'm also pretty opinionated as you will find out;)

I've been reading this site for a while and have decided to join up and spew my opinions far and wide. Thanks for having me.

Greetings everyone! hrshooter here and you can call me Dan. Looking forward to picking up my first two FAs after about a 30 year hiatus, both of which I decided on after researching the posts on them in THR. They're a H&R Sportster 22lr and Heritage 22lr RR. I know the RR isn't top drawer, but I'm going to take real good care of it and see how long I can get it to last. Been airgunning for the last 12 years and still do so I'm quite used to SS in a rifle.

Back when I was a kid and would visit the grandfolks in TN he let me use his 22 SS bolt and dbl bbl 12 ga. When in my early 20's my folks presented me with a nice Colt .38 service revolver in great condition, and after getting married my wife's grandparents gave us their Browning .25 auto. But, years later took 'em out of the safe deposit box and sold both for needed cash (with the kids around didn't want them in the house so wasn't doing anything with them anyway). Now, well, the Colt would sure be nice to have again, and it's a pity I never got to find out how well the Browning would have done at the range.

Went to the range today (first trip ever to one) and took my Crosman 3576 (460fps .177 SA/DA 10 shot CO2 revolver) since the HR and RR haven't come in yet. Wasn't sure what people would think of an air gun at the range, but, nobody laughed. Did surprisingly well at 10yds, nearly all shots inside the black and a fair amount in the red. Even after have the FAs will still be taking some AGs to the range, particularly the Daisy 22 SG, to see how well it can do at the farther distances. Had a great time at the range. One shooter had an M6 in mint never-fired condition. He had just sent a 22lr round down range when I remarked on it and he said it was the first time he'd ever fired it, and then asked if I'd like to fire it. Well that was a real treat, to have the honor of firing the second round ever in that venerable gun's life, and find out for myself what it was like to work its unusual trigger for the second time in its life as well; I'll say it was heavy, but not rough. I'm sure it'll improve over time.

I like shooting with iron sights for the most part and was thinking seriously about the Rossi .22/.410 Matched Pair which, is a youth size rifle/shot gun. The 22 SG's only a bit larger than youth size, but when I found a WM with a Rossi .22/.410 in its show case I was able to try it on and found the stock wasn't angled down enough to use the .22 bbl's iron sights without having to look almost completely over the top of my glasses. The 22 SG on the other hand has a more pronounced down slope to the stock making it more "heads up" when using the sights. Thinking further along the lines of sighting, this might be why Kentucky long rifles had such a pronounced, almost exagerated slope to the stock: so the shooter could easily look along the top of the barrel when shooting. Maybe someone can confirm that, or set me straight otherwise.

Sorry about the talk about AGs, since this is a FA site, but just wanted to share some background in my case. Probably others like me, I'm sure.
 
I am a new here, but I have been reading THR for a long time. I been studying various gun laws of the States, the 1968 GCA and gun laws in general. I am not a lawyer, I have been interested on 'how we got here'. I found interesting threads posts and elsewhere on how it was before the 1968 GCA, and how it was possible to buy pretty much anything you want from regular hardware stores, department stores to even gas stations and mail order.


One area I been looking at is New Jersey. And how it got to where it is in respect to gun rights. For instance in 1947 there was a constitutional convention and it appears the second amendment was omitted from the State Constitution. In 1966 they adopted the Firearms ID Card system, two years before the 1968 GCA.

" Delegates to the 1947 New Jersey Constitutional Convention believed that the right of the people to keep and bear arms was so obvious and universally accepted that they did not include it the wording in our state Constitution - a presumptive error of epic proportions."

On some aspects (such as concealed carry laws) it is much better today than it was before 1968 GCA. However before 1968 GCA, people were free to buy what they wanted without waiting periods and background checks. It was a right that was not infringed for the most part....

I did run into some surprises : Tennessee had 15 day waiting periods (tngunowners.com) and California required to get permission from the Sheriff to buy a pistol with a 3 day waiting period (http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-263424.html). And there are other examples.

Perhaps by studying on how some States got to be where they are today, like NJ, NY, CA, HI, IL, MA and MD. Maybe we can prevent the same from happening in the future to other States. I think education is very important, we need others to carry the torch and preserve our Second Amendment Rights into the future long after we are all gone. I think that responsibility lies with each of us...collectively.

I appreciate the great amount of knowledge here. There always interesting posts in regard to (IMO) our most important law...the Second Amendment. Without it, we are no longer free.
