Hi guys.
I'm Cory. I am a 20 year old National Guard veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was in country while the mission transitioned into Operation New Dawn. I have been in the military for 3 years, today actually. I am an MP. I really enjoy shooting and find myself striving to always do better at it.
I grew up around firearms. Being from a very rural area in upstate New York (Oh how I hate the city) I learned to shoot at an early age. I started with my fathers .22LR Marlin, and some other small guns. When I was pretty young I also loved shooting his .22LR Pheonix Arms pistol. My parents also had a .40 and a .45 but memory wont let me remember their specifics. I currently only own 2 firearms of my own. A .22LR semiautomatic Marlin and a Remington 1187 Premier. The latter has a target barrel and a cantilever barrel with a scope. They are well loved and see frequent use.
In the Army I have used more then a few weapons with more then a few odds and ends attached. While deployed I carried my M4, M9 and had a 240B as my crew serve. But I have also worked with the M16, MK19, M249, M203and more then a few less than lethal weapons.
Although NY state law says I can apply for my pistol permit while under the age of 21 because Im a veteran... That isnt the actual case. Apparently Schorie(sp?) county doesnt care. In fact, I was told if I wanted to apply I should speak with legal council. I cant wait to move back to Otsego county. After I turn 21 in June and apply I intend to buy 3 pistols. An M9 Military styled Beretta (Its what I truely learned the fundamentals on. and I have yet to qualify anything but expert with it,) a .22LR Pheonix (My fiance loves my Dads mouse gun and wants me to get one so she can learn to shoot better and more often. SCORE.) and a 1911. I have been eyeing Springfield Armory's X9109LP I think thats the number. Loaded Parkerized. BUT Im holding out on buying a 1911 until I get the chance to put some rounds down range. Probably check out a rental range after I get the permit. I would consider myself knowledgable about pistols... but there is always a wealth of information to learn from.
The reason I am joining is pretty simple. This is the best forum about firearms I have found. I have lurked here for along time around the hunting section, and more recently around the handgun section. Hopefully I can bring something to the table as far as information and experience, and hopefully I can gain some aswell.
... Wow. I just wrote a freakin book. Oh well. hahaha.
