Hello to the forum

I couldn't find any other place to post this, but I always think it's good manners to provide a "hello" message before I begin posting anywhere. I am pro-gun rights and pro-Constitution. Please move this post someplace else on here if needed. Thanks very much.

Shepherd, Sheriff's Auxiliary, activist

I'm Eric Vought. My wife and I raise sheep on a small farm in MIssouri. I'm disabled, so I tend to write a lot more now than other things, but we are active volunteers and activists for community self- reliance and personal freedoms, including the RTKBA. I have been helping some of the groups locally research and tweak proposed state legislation.

I am the Commander of the relatively recent (Feb 2012) Lawrence County Sheriff's Auxiliary which is a volunteer uniformed civil service working emergency and disaster response under the Office of the Sheriff. There are other programs across the country that enlist volunteers to work with law enforcement (under, e.g. VIPS) but none quite as ambitious as this one, in terms of our training and anticipated duties and in the fact that we incorporate armed volunteers, something which seems to have fallen out of favor sometime in the 50's or 60's and which communities and agencies are much more interested in today because of declining budgets and an increase in magnitude and frequency of weather emergencies. We were formed in the wake of the Joplin EF5 which had Deputies from 14 Missouri counties deployed in the disaster zone, leaving local response short-handed.

We have spent much of the last year organizing and designing a training/qualification program (first aid, communications, self-defense, law, disaster response) to try to balance the needs of having competent, well-organized responders on the field versus the reality of the time and expense commitment asked of volunteers. Our county has a Reserve Deputy program for part-time licensed Peace Officers which generally attracts people either retiring from or trying to get into a full-time law enforcement career. By contrast, our volunteers are not necessarily connected to law enforcement but more interested in the community service and emergency response aspects.

Personally, firearms are more or less just another tool for us on the farm, carry permits are required by the Auxiliary, we carry much of the time, and shoot to stay in practice. Black powder has become a bit of a hobby and I actually consider bp shooting to be fun (modern inline bp rifle and a replica 1858 Remington revolver), no longer being able to keep up with archery.

I was a student at Simon's Rock College during the 1992 shooting and have been writing a bit about that in the last few months. I have recently been asked to be part of a panel on Active Shooter situations at the upcoming IAEM in October and am looking for good discussion to challenge and refine my own thinking. Most of the online discussions are frankly nuts on all sides of the issue. I came to this forum because of its very high reputation and have been lurking for a bit.

Hi. My name is Steve and I am ex military. Love lever actions, revolvers, ar's and semiauto's (particularly cz's and 1911's). I carry all the time and support our 2nd amendment rights. Look forward to reading other like minded peoples views and maeby offering a few of my own.

I'm a handful of posts late but i just saw this one and wanted to say hello from SW Florida. I have a addiction to lever guns in just about any caliber and have recently gotten into single action revolvers,i reload for everything that i shoot and am about to get into casting my own bullets for several of my rifles and handguns,i also homebuild firearms from parts kits which i taught myself how to do about 6 years ago. I have 2 young kids that i'm starting early and teaching to respect firearms but also to enjoy them, they help me reload and love just picking up the brass that daddy drops:D. If you made it this far thanks for reading and i hope to be a positive contributer to the site.

My Name is Steve Chesler and I live in Maryland and consequently have very few gun rights. I am socially liberal but fiscally conservative. I think that makes me either a fool or an Independent. I'm 69 years old and am retired. I look forward to reading the opinons of others on all 2nd Amendment issues.

Hi my name is Apples and live in South Africa and like hunting and fishing.i have been hunting for 11 years now and LOVE IT.

I am the owner of The Old Gunhand website devoted to the Senior Citizen shooter. I have been shooting for over 42 years and saw action in Vietnam. I have only started visiting gun forums recently and it has been an eye opener. I hope to provide some informed opinions that some may find helpful.

Let's see, I carry a gun and still work doing IT and security compliance as liaison with several Federal agencies. I am also very involved in the study of IQ and intelligence as part of my Mensa activities. Married with no kids, just two dogs who are treated as kids. I live in a very large retirement community so I am attuned to the needs of older people who cannot carry or use guns as well as you young guys can.

We welcome you Old dog and your knowledge. I'm a Floridian myself. Welcome to the high road. You'll like it here.

Hey everyone. New member and somewhat new gun owner here. Looking forward to meeting you guys. See you around!

new guy

Hello everyone I love to shoot, target, IDPA, hunt fish shoot trap. I have been reloading 12 gauge and.40 predominantly for years, in no way do I consider my self an expert. That would of been my late father. I inherited some of his reloading equipment and misc. old powders primers even found some old zinc alcan hulls! I have added a lot more reloading equipment to his collection. now I am reloading .38,.357,.40,.44mag,.45acp,.223/5.56,.22-250. And the good old 12quage. I found some old data for my alcan5 for my 38/357 but more interested in doing some crow/turkey loads #5 shot AA hull, MY big question is always safety!? is it possible with a plastic wad?? my LH 870 wing master express was a gift from my father. most the others I bought from his wife, I don't want to destroy any of them many are quite valuable in the books and more so to myself. Thank you all for welcoming me to your community :) I have seen a lot of people say 209a primers are just a little hotter than the 209s is there any kind of powder reduction formula similar to the 10%-reduction in powder for 5.56 being thicker?

Hi all,

The names Matt. I'm a corrections officer for state of MO, CCW holder, and NRA member. I have been shooting for hunt, sport, or anything since I was about 10 years old. I have typically come across this site and read posts but never registered and participated till today. Hope to be able to meet a few new friends and share my thoughts, and have a burning question answered that will probably be my second post....

Have a good day

Yet another new member who has surfed the site for a few years and now decided to join. I frequent a few other shooting forums and haven't joined here because I was happy with just reading along at THR.

But the widespread opposition and just plain indifference to firearms and civil liberties has convinced me to add my eyes, ears and voice to a few places that I haven't been as committed to until now. And it will be nice to see the members-only attachments to posts too. :)

I'm male and retired. I own about a dozen guns, half of which I inherited from my mom and dad. I'm a small-time reloader and a hobby level gunsmith, making a few of my own accessories and various AR-15 parts including an upper and some lowers. I do most work on an old 3-in-1 multi-tool that I built my own CNC system for and wrote my own software to operate.

I look forward to learning all I can and contributing any of my experience that might help others.

Just wanted to say Hi & Thanks for this forum. I love to shoot most guns, big bores & 45/70 are my favotite, hunt bear & Squirrel mostly, fly prewar aircraft & ultralights & enjoy every day as it's a blessing! Thanks :D

Am considering a new target/hunting rifle. Win Model 70 in 7mm-08, or new Mauser M-12 in 308? Your opinions please! Tks!

New member greetings from Nor Cal

Hello all, I just joined in February, but I've been lurking and I learning and watching for a while now. This is a great group of learned people, I'm glad to be a member. I've been shooting since I was eight years old in military school. Mostly long guns earliest and the rest now mostly handguns. Recently I purchased my first AR 15 and it's going to fun getting to know as much as I can from friends, publications, and a great forum like this, and shooting it. I have a Beretta 92fs inox, aS&W 686 plus p 5 inch, and a Springfield 1911 a1 ss target Loaded, and an Adcor B.E.A.R. Elite. I look forward to learning and sharing here on THR.
P. S. California laws suck!

Hello all members.

I was raised in the country and learned to shoot starting with a BB gun and working my way up from there.
Curiously, no one that I knew of had a handgun. Only the police carried them- revolvers all.

In Nevada, I finally had a job that paid well enough to purchase several firearms.
My first purchase was a Sig Sauer P-226 in 1989. It is a great gun!
And with Nevada being a bit of the Old West and plenty of public land to shoot on, times were good.

I personally know of several people that committed suicide with guns, or killed accidently.
As a result, I'm all for gun safety. I think that this can be accomplished without compromising the 2nd Ammendment.

Thanks for the welcom.

Hi I hope you don't mind women on your forum. I have always been around guns and camping and I enjoy talking with other people who have the same interests. I live in Northern Nevada and own a gun shop. We specialize in making custom hunting rifles.

Hey all, my name is Jamie. I registered here a few weeks ago, but never saw this thread. Thought it might be appropriate to officially introduce myself.

I was born in Indiana, and moved to Arizona at age 14. I've lived here ever since. I'm now a bona fide desert rat.

After graduating college, I served in the US Army as an intelligence officer. I'm now out of the military, pursuing a PhD, and have intentions of starting a new career as a college professor.

My grandfather was a gun collector, and I grew up shooting, what seemed like every day.

I have many flirtations like 1911s, S&W Revolvers, cowboy guns, etc, but my first and strongest love will always be the Browning Hi Power. Its been my constant companion since I could legally carry it.

Anyhow, its good to be here.

Miss Stana, I can't speak for the forum, as I'm new here also, but I'm definitely supportive of women arming and training themselves. My wife has her CHP and carries an XD9sc, adult daughter who doesn't have her permit yet, but has an XD9 4" for home defense, and open carry while driving.
