my passion is deer stalking.
really looking forward to talking to fellow hunters.
my sons fellow hunters are away in college now and i miss them and our forays.

While I am not new to guns by any means, I am relatively new to re-loading (less than a year). I have been a fan of modern fire-arms since I was a kid and, up until about a year ago or so, kind up snubbed the more traditional firearms such as revolvers, lever actions etc. Boy was I missing out!

It was the purchase of my Ruger GP-100 that led to my reloader that led to my Rossi 92 that led to (Big bills aside), this forum because I didn't know what the heck I was doing and, even though I have plenty of book-smarts when it comes to reloading, I was finding that it wasn't translating into real life success. A few of my searches brought me here where I found a lot of very knowledgeable people with some good info that has really helped out.

I have been kind of vamping here on the high road for months and just signed up. I am one of those people who usually keeps my mouth shut because I tend to be more comfortable accepting advice than giving it but found some areas where I actually did have something to offer :)

Forgive me for asking questions that seem to be common but how else can I learn but to ask the learned. I know we have no rights like you but we are fighting for them.
From the fact that we have to take a 2 day course to the fact we have to have a membership in an expensive club to the waiting period that can take up to 6 months plus we have to have PAPERS just to carry the gun in a locked box to and from the range and not allowed to stop for anything or help anyone......... Yes our life SUCKS!!

I am new today too. I saw your rant and am glad you are here. I am VERY lucky to live in Utah. We are very proud of our rating of 0 from the Brady Campaign... We also have a fraction of the per capita gun violence that California has which scored somewhere in the 80s or 90s for how "Great" they are for gun control from the Brady bunch.

I have lived in Europe and am constantly outraged by the U.S. media portraying the people in these places with almost zero gun ownership as happy and somehow living in gun free utopias.

Hey there everybody. Ben from north Ga, right between Atlanta and Chattanooga. I turned 18 awhile back and got a Winchester 1300. Always been around guns but dad never got me one :( I look forward to meeting folks and learning!
 
Born n raised, will prob die here in TX...lots of military involvement in my family....since my g8 g8 g8 uncle fought with the Texians @ the battle of San Jacinto... neways, I have always enjoyed the outdoors..but due to work, family, etc, havent done much as far as Sports /range shooting in many years. 1 1/2 mths ago, I had a 22Mag rifle and 50 rds, which ive had for about 20 years. That was it. Thx to liberal ideology that permeates this land, since then, I have expanded to the Marlin 22Mag rifle, a Savage 22lr rifle, a Browning BDA .380 sidearm (nickel), a Mossberg tact shotgun, and a Sig M400E AR15 in FDE.... I now have 600rds for the 22mag, 300 rds for the .380, 500 shells for my Moss, 2200 rds for the 22lr, and 1300 rds in 5.56 and .223.. and counting weekly..Gotta do what you gotta do..:cool:
 
Hi all, I'm a 16+ year member of the USAF and a brat before that. I love firearms, but I am if I'm honest, I'm better with the data then I am a shot. Nothing a few thousand more rounds down range won't help.

Hi, new member here. Turning 70 soon. Have a couple of military long guns, new 308, shotgun and 22 cal plus 38 revolver. I work for a gunmaker now, mostly stocking work. Got 91 Argentine for my 19th Christmas, just shot it 2 weeks ago. You can call me slow. Did some pistol shooting in the late 60's and 70's; 'till my wife died and taking care of the kids and working were all I could handle. Started trying Sporting clays and high power shooting last year. Plan to do reloading.
 
I am glad to have rediscovered this fine forum. Joining up today, I posted a few times.The NRA has always had me in their membership.My local sport mans' club has recognized me as a Senior ,Gold Card member of 25+ years.
Handgun hunting, with Smith& Wesson revolvers, evolved to wild pig hunting with T/C Contender ....35 Rem. and later with a.45-70 Gov.bbl.(12 in. Hunter) &Burris scopes.
At my advancing age I'm finding more time to handload. (cost) & reload the empty hulls that I've accumulated.
I'll be exposed to more experience and pro. Tips here; and I'll be glad to be educated. Sharing a story,periodically, will be my pleasure. Regards from Penna.

I too was a "lurker". I love shooting, reloading, firearms, history, and the Constitution. I have mainly semi-auto rifles, Glock, FN pistol, Colt DA revolver, some shotguns, some rimfires, some antiques and one p08. I have some questions about a Luger. There are some very well versed people here and I will read their comments / pick their brains if I need.

Thought I would finally take the time to say hello and introduce myself. I am currently a full time college student studying materials science and engineering. I have been shooting since I was 4. I also enjoy reloading.
 
Not sure how I missed this thread. Been lurking on here off and on for years but finally joined. Shot my first gun at 4 years old which got me in hot water since I had seen my dad load it before and knew it was in the closet I loaded it with it standing up in the closet worked the bolt like I saw him do and pulled the trigger. Blew a hole through most of moms clothes the top of the closet and through the roof. After dad bought a gun cabinet and locked them up and started teaching me gun safety and how to shoot and not to touch any gun unless I was with an adult that he said was okay. Been shooting every since. X-Navy GMT Have just started rebuilding my battery of guns after not having any for years after we were Robbed. I have owned guns from .22's to 50 cal over the years. Now I need a shotgun and a center fire semi auto rifle to complete my long guns, and a 22 and center fire revolver to complete the hand guns. I live out in the middle of nowhere it Tennessee so I hunt off my back porch most of the time since I am disabled and can not get around like I use to do.

Edit: The shotgun I blew the hole in the closet with was a full choke JC Higgens Bolt Action 12 gauge that Dad gave me years later. It is the only one of the guns that was stolen that was recovered but I will never see it in my hands again. They chopped the stock and sawed off the barrel was unless I want to go through the headache of the paperwork and cost to own a sawed off shotgun that I would have no use for I will never own it again. :(

I've been registered since Sept but haven't really be around. I spent 5 1/2 years in Army, 2 of which were in Afghanistan, with 3rd BDE, 1 ID. I'm not much of a snob when it comes to guns, I'm pretty open to different manufacturers and styles (except Glock, I'm just not a fan of the grip angle but I am impressed with their track record). I live in Boise, ID which is MUCH better than where I grew up (poop-hole CA).
 
I'm a long time gun owner who in better days used to shoot competitively. Now I am back into reloading and having fun working up new loads. Almost as much fun as shooting them. Looking forward to learning from the vast wealth of knowledge on this forum. Thanks in advance.

Hello! I'm TheHappyGunner, and I'm a newbie here. During my online firearms research over the past couple of years, I was always attracted to the professionalism and wisdom of TheHighRoad community, so I have decided to finally join and become a part of the forum.

About me: I'm 20 years old. I grew up and reside in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the home of Little League Baseball. I'm currently attending my 3rd year at Penn State University, majoring in forestry with a minor in history. During my freshman year of college, my interest in firearms began when I purchased my first gun (a Mosin Nagant). Now, my interests (and my collection) have spanned into anything and everything guns. But isn't that why we're all here?

Anyways, thanks for having me on TheHighRoad. Hopefully I'll see you around!
 
I'm a little late on this, but better late than never:

Active duty Army, spent time in Iraq and Afghanistan, with a few scrapes and close calls, but nothing I couldn't recover from. Working on a Masters in Intelligence with a Focus on Terrorism.

Beginning in December of last year, I got very serious about purchasing and securing guns and ammo after seeing the writing on the wall in DC. I no longer take for granted that our politicians and government will always respect the 2nd amendment.

I came across THR while researching various topics related to 2nd amendment rights. While I haven't always seen eye to eye with our mods, they have shown themselves to be a polite and educated bunch of folks.

Hi, I've always found a lot of accurate and reliable information on THR, figured it was about time I actually joined! I live in BC Canada, and enjoy shooting immensely even if it is a bit of a challenge sometimes due to our poorly written laws, and generally non-firearm friendly government. I have a variety of firearms inc. a Rem 700 XCR, Marlin .357, Walther P99, SW629 Classic, and the ubiquitous AR (mine's a PWS Mk112). I'm not the greatest shot, but I have fun and emphasize safety. I try to expose as many new shooters to the sport as I can, as I feel that's the best thing I can do to promote firearms in the future up here in your northern neighbourhood! Thanks for letting me join!

Hello, everyone! I missed this thread when I first happened by so I'll stop in quick and introduce myself. I'm in my mid-forties and have been shooting since, well, about the time I could walk. Growing up my dad had an FFL & license to mfg ammo which he sold through his sports club. We always had at least 80 personal firearms in the house in addition to anything that was inventory.

I like shooting rifles and pistols. Never really got into shotgunning as far as trap, skeet or hunting but I do like the shottie as a defensive arm. I grew up a country kid and we had a hundred acres out in the sticks. We reloaded and could shoot just by stepping out the front door! But I've lived in the city for the last 20 years so it's mostly handguns now since I have a membership at an indoor range.

My main fixation/obsession is with HK firearms. Currently I have four of them: 2 x USPf9's, 1 x USP 45 Tactical and a P30S. My first "real" sidearm that I bought myself for CCW was a Browning Hi-Power in 9mm. Bought her new 25 years ago and still occasionally carry it today, although my EDC rotation consists of Beretta Nano and my stable of HKs. My preferred mode of carry is Condition One.

My primary interest in guns is CCW/defense nowadays. I have a few "range toys" but anything that I can't CCW or use for home defense won't stick around my place for long. Living in SD I enjoy pretty great gun laws and have had my CCW permit for around 25 years.

I look forward to learning a bit and maybe chiming in occasionally, too.;)
 
Hey everyone...my name's Brendon, and I'm a relatively new shooter (first time shooting was last year) from northeast Ohio. My girlfriend and I currently have a modest collection of three guns: a Colt 1911 .22LR, a Ruger 10/22 carbine, and a Ruger Mk III Target. We also both just took the NRA pistol course required for CCW permits in our state, and we'll be applying for our permits soon...meaning we'll probably be in the market for something that's not another .22LR, and more compact. :p

I am a strong Constitution supporter and believe in it. You'll find me mostly browsing the Handload section. :)
