I have a late 70s Smith and Wesson model 10-8.

Does Smith offer to tighten up a gun in terms of a little endshake and barrel cylinder gap?

It is a police trade in from Australia (from buds). I figured it would cost just as much to buy a brand new model 10 vs refurbish my 10-8. It is a pinned barrel gun and so I'd rather have this one be like new.

They won't do parts replacements like triggers & hammers, and so on, but they can still handle end-shake. :)

You can fix endshake yourself and save hundreds. It's not that hard.

Wow, is it really that easy? I guess I'll have to try that.

I still think I may want to get it reblued though.

From what I'm told, if you send the gun in to be reblued they go over the entire gun and repair anything they find wrong. If it;s covered by the warranty it's free, if it's not you get a call before they do any work.

Again, on the older models with a hammer-mounted firing pin, they're losing the ability to service some aspects involving replacing parts they no longer have in stock.
A re-blue & a general tune-up, things like end-shake, rebound slides & so on common to current versions are still do-able.

Re the re-blue, I have a 29-5 and a pre-27 that were both returned to S&W for refinishing before I acquired 'em. The result is nothing short of magnificent.

Both of those were done a couple years back, hopefully they can still achieve that level. :)

I have one of those too that I bought from Bud's. Seems to be in fine shape though, other than finish wear. I wish I could afford to send it in to S&W to have it purtied up, maybe someday I can. But it's real nice to know about Midway's fix-it videos! Thanks!

It's not to hard to find a real immaculate Model 10 for something around $600. Box, papers, pinned, forged hammer & trigger, and the whole nine yards. Keep that in mind before sinking a lot into a well used police revolver. You might be able to sell your Bud's gun, even make a couple of bucks in doing so, and buy something much nicer and collectible for less than what you'd have in the factory rebuilt and reblued Bud's.
