I have a 1939 Tula 91/30 Mosin Nagant, and I currently use a Brass Stacker mount with a very low cost AIM Scout Scope, 2-7 x 42. While it is good for up to 50 yds. I am looking for a recommendation to replace it with something at least a 3-9 x 40, would prefer x12 power, but requires at least 4-6inches of Eye Relief. The main issue I have is not finding one with good eye relief.

The Brass Stacker mount I have does not require drilling or changing the receiver. It fits over the front sight using the same Pins, it does allow sighting through original sights under the bracket, thus placing the scope up high. I have mitigated that with a good Butt Stock Pad.

I do have a bent bolt on the rifle. I would really like a scope that would let me better zero at 100yds. I would like to make it a hunting rifle. The rifle is capable of quarter size and smaller shot groups, but cannot get a good bead at 100ds with the current scope.

Anyone already have something that may work or would recommend a nice scope with decent eye relief.
Can I find something within $200-$300 or less?

cdb1, ok if I didn't have a budget per say, what recommendations could you provide? I am really hoping that someone already has a scope and they can share their info.

At the bottom end I’d say VX-3i. There may be others in the VX-3i price range that I’m not aware of. There are almost always exceptions to the rule but one of the qualities you normally get when you go up in scope price is better eye relief.

No offense but I’d stay away from Sightmark. When I was selling optics, Sightmark red dots quite often crapped out within a couple of months, don’t know about their scopes but because of their red dots I have no inclination to try a Sightmark scope.

I've heard the same about their red dots. Scopes I haven't really talked to anybody who's owned one.

I will have to take my Mosin into the store so that I can see if I have the clearance from the bolt and they eye relief. Next time I get to Cabela's or Bass Pro I will do that. I don't know if my local shop will allow me to "Try" scopes to see if they fit.

The best method I've found for scoping an M91 or M91/30 (will not work with the M38 or M44) is to remove the rear sight and clamp a BKL 254-4 onto the block. (You will have to remove the pin carefully, and possibly may have to use a rubber mallet to get the rear sight off. All of this is reversable.) Put your choice of IER scopes on. Eye relief should be @14", keep the rear bell in front of the ejection port. The BKL 257-2 2 piece set works, too, though the 254-4 is the better mount, IMO.
