I was at one of the local shops today and saw in the used case a Springfield Mil-Spec. Checked it out. Had the serial number that starts with "NM". Had maybe a box or two fired through it. The price was $366. It is now at home with me. Tore it down. Has the one piece ss barrel and bushing. The fit and finish on this thing is incredible. Very well fit. Came with another mag and one of them SA plastic holsters. Can't wait to get it too the range.

Some nice fellow out in California sold me his US built Springfield Mil Spec a couple years ago in gently used condition for $340 shipped. Definately one of the best deals I've gotten on a handgun, I'm sure you'' love yours!

Is it a mil-spec or a GI? Most gunstoreidiots can't get it straight and use the terms interchangably. It's an OK price on a GI, outstanding price on a mil-spec. Describe the rear sight, ejection port and grips.

Thanks jaysouth for pointing that out. People call the "GI" the MilSpec all the time. They're two different pistols. It's like folks calling all 1911's Colt .45's

That's because SA calls the one the Milspec, and the other the GI Milspec.

BTW, none of the GI's or milspecs are US made. The only "US made" guns come out of their custom shops. These are 90% finished frames and slides from South America that get the final fit and finish in their custom shop.

Usually less than 1,000 per year are made in the US. In 2004 for example, only 1710 handguns above 9mm were manufactured in the US.

With an NM prefix it's almost certainly a Mil Spec.

Springfield runs batches of them through their U.S. facility periodically. Although fabricated in Brazil, those Mil Specs that are assembled and finished in the U.S. instead of Brazil get an NM prefix vs a simple N. Every NM prefix Mil Spec that I've seen (I own 2) comes with a stainless one piece barrel and stainless bushing. Finish is more like blueing than parkerization. Very smooth to the touch. Front sight on an NM is undercut. Front sight on an N is ramped.

No mechanical differences between N's and NM's. All my Mil Specs shoot great and are well fitted.

You got one heck'uv'a deal!

If I had bought a GI , I would have said so. ;)

Had it to the range yesterday. I ran 150 rounds of fmj through it without fail. Fired great. Got so used to Glock triggers I need more trigger time.:D

We're just jealous cause you got such a steal! I've never managed to pick one up for less than 4 bills. Enjoy! TF

Ticketed price was $420. The weekend I got it, the shop was having a 15% off sale.:D
