New platform decision, desire ability to stock all parts

Thanks for the link 9mmepiphany. I think that is recent, as I have been checking out their site regularly for a while until becoming very busy a couple of weeks ago. As for Apex parts, it is cool that they are available but I have yet to use any as I want to maintain factory parts only. Not to mention the price of Apex parts can be quite high.

Hey danez71, unfortunately that is the old trigger bar. It got replaced almost 2 years ago I think (new one has "H" stamped on it).

I noticed sear blocks quite a while ago... several months maybe.

Regarding the trigger bar... is it not usable? What's the difference?

Im very interested and curious as I have a M&P9c from about 2008 or 09.

If the 'old' trigger bar just doesn't provide as smooth of trigger as the newer one, that would concern me because I'm fine with the 08/09 trigger I have and always have been ok with it.

Recommendation? The new M17 SIG P320. When the government adopts a pistol it then becomes a long term commodity and parts are especially common as many armorer's and depots keep them in stock just in case. Time goes by and the public buys them too, parts remain available and with millions manufactured there are plenty to go around. That is exactly what happened with the 1911 and what has happened with the M9.

Makes a lot of sense. But it will take time for the Sig to become “America’s new pistol”. What's the parts availability like now?

Pretty much any SIG P-series (the classics, not to include the new 227s, Legions, 225A1, 238, P938, et al).

Whole parts kits are available through Midway, Brownells, Top Gun Supply ... every possible thing you might ever need to replace on a SIG P-226, 228, 229 ... Great instructional DVDs available on the SIG P-series, not to mention the standard YouTube fare ...

Glock would be best this moment IMO. All parts are available on Gunbroker and the aftermarket vendors any given day including frames and slides as well as upper or lower build kits. I don't know what all parts Glock sells OEM, but I ordered 3 recoil assemblies from them direct for a great price.

P320 is an intriguing option. Major spare assemblies are available by design ala grip modules and "conversions." Aftermarket is starting to kick in strong and the Army contract should kick that into hyperdrive. I think the P320 will become popular in a way the M9 never could. Lots of 92's sold based on the Army and Hollywood (Lethal Weapon etc.) but they are just "range guns" for most due to their size. The P320 is very practical as a carry gun on top of being the new Army gun.

This may be a fly in the ointment if you're looking at a 1911 as a possible answer to your OP question. The 1911 has lots of pricey parts, and unless you have a factory Wilson, getting all "factory" parts may be difficult.

I would seriously consider moving to Glocks. Detail stripping is very quick and easy, only requiring one punch (in fact, the "armorer's tool" is essentially just a punch) and can be completed in just a couple of minutes. There are a very small number of parts compared to some other firearms, and they are all drop in. On my most recent Glock purchase (a LE Trade In) I detail stripped it and swapped out the trigger return spring and swapped the heavy connector for a stock weight connector (among other spring replacements) in just a few minutes. Not major surgery/gunsmithing by any means, but I was surprised how quick and easy it was.

The ability to take an official armorers course from Glock with a GSSF membership is also a good thing to look into if you plan on doing a lot of work on your guns. A nice bonus is that as a GSSF member you can get a yearly discount coupon to buy a Glock at a discounted price. It's not an incredible savings, but it pays for the membership fee plus a bit more (I'd consider it if you're going to buy multiple guns).

I'll ask again.....

What parts are not available for the M&P the OP already has and likes?
The OP from post #22

Their restricted parts list includes the ejector, trigger bar, sear, sear housing block, and I may be leaving out a 5th part. I asked him why I see some sear housing blocks on Brownells' or MidwayUsa's site, and he indicated that the final nail is in the coffin. They will no longer be selling any restricted parts (except to certified armorers). I put a call into a local class III dealer/manufacturer/machinist (this guy call really do it all, and does it well) and asked him to place a call to S&W and attempt to get the parts. I am waiting for an answer on that front.

If that weren't bad enough, since S&W doesn't sell parts from their website, it took me one hour on the phone to order: 2 slide stop assemblies, 3 ejector pins and springs, 6 coil pins, 5 magazine followers, and 5 magazine base plates and pads. There were a myriad of other unrestricted parts that I couldn't get during that order because they didn't have any.
Let me add - the OP wants "factory only" parts availability. He doesn't want aftermarket parts.

And then in post 23 and 24 a dress the big items and I think the rest of those part are avail at SSS as factory parts.... I've bought several of the items myself.

So I asked again, what's left that he thinks can't be bought?

I'm curious myself. It's not that I'm trying to antagonize.
