As far as controlled feed rifles go, Voeres have a pretty good price / quality ratio, but I'm not sure if there's a US importer for these currently. Zastavas are imported to the US, but these rifles are usually a bit rough around the edges.

What comes to push feed rifles, Tikkas and Sakos are very tough to beat at their respective price points.

Hope this helps!

Very helpful, thank you.

ya know, now that im thinking about it my ffl buddy had a distrib with 20" 6.5x55 557s in synthetic stocks for something like 500 bucks, or maybe lower.....this was early last year.
Im remembering thinking they were cobbled together parts of guns that didn't sell well.

When CZ discontinued the 550 and replaced it with the 557, almost all, if not all came with 20” barrels. I believe that’s one of the big reasons they didn’t sell well. CZ just fairly recently went to 24” barrels on most 557’s.

That I can understand, while balistics may not change THAT much, I have no real interest in anything besides a true ultralight with a 20" or shorter barrel.
Honestly that's why i didnt jump on the cheap 557s.

I also passed on 2 of these that were cheap because I did not like the shorter barrel.

CZ used have the Mannlicher stock line 6.5x55 and 308 and a step up line with 7x57 Mauser along with Rigby calibers.
To be honest a bolt action Mauser 7x57 really appeal to me, even when my choice mostly gravitate in between 6.5x55 and 308.
It is time to retire the k98.

My 6.5x55 is a 550 American. I was planning on eventually getting a 550 in 7x57 too. The 550 American ticked all the right boxes for me. When CZ discontinued the 550 I was very disappointed and then the replacement with 20” barrels made it worse. Even now that the 557 has 24” barrels they don’t bring anything to the table that the Weatherby Vanguard doesn’t IMO and I’ve been very happy with my Vanguards.

Don't worry so much CZ as soon feel the market disappointment they will bring it back, I don't know about Mannnlicher stock (small market) but the action.
I haven't paid any attention lately to 557 action.

It’s been out of production for a good while now so I don’t hold out much hope of the 550 coming back. Mannlicher stocks don’t appeal to me.

The full stock version on rifles grew with me since a kid, the 550 full stock was like meet again an old friend. I know balance, weight, cleaning and disassembly is a task but I don't care.
If CZ 7x57 in full stock or Zastava new production come across I will have to find another excuse to say to my Queen.
