Congratulations on your new GP100.
I swear! Auto Communista gets me every time…

I recently bought a lightly used 4.2” with the hogue grips. Yeah, they aren’t sexy, but man are they nice when shooting magnum loads. I really enjoy shooting .357 mag from mine. Still learning the gun and it’s trigger. I swapped the factory front sight for a Hi-Viz fiber optic sight and I really like it with the white pipe installed.

It still has the original sight in that photo.

Enjoy your new GP100.

Looks very nice! I heard swapping out the front site is pretty easy on the GP100,

I just picked one of those up myself. The trigger is a bit “stagey” and took some getting used to, but with the Wolff springs and a hi biz front sight installed it’s a great shooter.

Love the blued one above, Pat Riot. That looks great !

Stay safe.

What lb springs did you install in yours?

OG Ruger grips are the best! The Houges are nice but too long for my likes. I wish they came up with a way to attach Houges that did not involve the extention on the bottom of the frame. Anyways I have been using the OG grips for 30 years and they work. They fit my hand and are very comfortable. Good Move!

Nice choice! I've always been a S&W guy when it came to 38/357 wheel guns. ( Particularly their L and N frames) Still, I took a chance on a used GP100 a month or so back and have become smitten with it. The gun is accurate, smooth and the trigger "stages" beautifully. I particularly like the interchangeable front sight ( which is only an option on the Pro and PC S&W's.) The fully covered grip frame really cuts down on recoil too.

I tried a few different grips, and front sights, on my GP100. I settled on the older style factory grip because it shortened the length of pull slightly, and made the GP100 feel more like the S&W 686s I'm used to.

That is a beautiful gun! I am on the hunt for a MC to add to my GP family.

I like the recoil absorption of the original full rubber grips, but found myself re-adjusting my grip due to the finger grooves. I got the old style set up from Chig's and like them a lot. The recoil with 357s isn't much more.

Took the gun to the range for the first time today. What a fun gun to shoot! Shot 50 rounds of .38 special and 50 rounds of .357 magnum. Brought my 9mm and shot 50 rounds through that too.

.38 wasn’t bad at all. Virtually zero recoil. Loaded up the .357s next. Whoa! Talk about loud! That’s a beast of a round. Never shot .357 before. Never felt uncomfortable shooting those. That big gun just soaks up the recoil. The grips are great too!

I let my father in law shoot it too and he was amazed by the power of those .357 rounds.

I shot up close at first at 10 yards to get used to it then shot out to 25 yards. Did both double and single action. Double action has a pretty long pull, stiff too. Single action is a breeze. Really enjoyed shooting the gun though, glad I bought it. Will be putting many more rounds through it in the future!

Here’s a few “shots” from the range haha!

Looking Good! You can look up how to polish/slick up a GP action online. It really helps. A 12 lb Wolf mainspring helps as well. I don't like to go below 12 lbs for serious guns. Some people replace the trigger return spring in combination with the mainspring for a further reduction in pull. Lots of options out there.... That some good shooting right out of the gate! Enjoy that Ruger.

This is my first DA/SA revolver. I have a Ruger Wrangler that shoots .22lr but it’s SA only. I’ll have to get used to the longer trigger pull for DA. It’s a stiff pull for sure but I still shot well. I can see why people lighten it up a bit.

I’ve also read where people just shoot the gun more and the trigger just breaks in on its own. So I may leave it alone for a while and just shoot it more to see how it feels then.

The trigger spring just affects how fast the trigger resets itself after firing right? The hammer spring would affect trigger pull more so I would imagine. This is all new to me so maybe I’m wrong.

Im looking forward to shooting it some more!

I bought the Wolf spring kit for my GP-100 and installed the lightest springs first, that way if it was too light I could just bump up to the next ones, it only takes maybe 10 minutes. But the light set was just perfect.
