Does anyone here know if Ruger (or anyone) is going to offer the bottom metal for AICS mags for the M77 soon? I actually like the new rifle, but I already have a Frontier, and it would be easier for me to explain a couple hundred for new bottom metal than a grand for the rifle (with extra mags).

Thanks

I would like to see it as an option on their "tactical" model M77 as well. The AICS mag is a great option, and becoming a standard. I am really happy they chose that (over something proprietary) and I really hope this gets some other makers in on it like Tapco for super-cheap, and MAGPUL[!!!!!] for 30 dollars or so. It would make me very happy.

Anyone got a line at Ruger on these things?

I have the opposite question. I was looking for a Hawkeye compact when i saw the Gunsite. The gunsite model was $100 more than the compact medel I wanted anyway and already had iron sights, so the money made sense to me for the gunsite just on that basis. THe gun should arrive soon (he wouldn't sell me the display model), but I will probably prefer to carry the rifle without all that unecessary weight and protruding magazine. I would like to be able to just screw in the regular magazine box, spring, follower, trigger guard, and floorplate so that I end up with a more streamlined and (for my needs) functional truck gun. I'll try it like it comes, but I want to know what my options are. It looks like Brownells has all of the stock parts for the regular compact models, but will they fit the stock on the gunsite model?

AICS bottom metal almost always requires removing material from the stock. You will probably need a new stock to go back to the standard bottom metal. Alternatively, you might be able to use bedding material to re-fit standard bottom metal.

Well that starts to make the modification more trouble (and expense) than its worth. I'll have to try it with the detachable magzine and see how it carries/balances.

A lot of the forum threads I've seen seem to call for flush fitting magazine that would accomplish the same thing. Maybe that will come along before I get annoyed enough to spend the money for another stock. Or I could run into a bunch of zombies that need killlin and fall in love with that detachable magazine. Either way, shootin beats going to work, and I'll enjoy the new toy.

It seems to carry in the same fashion as M1 carbine - hand on the stock and mag., or simply hold onto the mag.

I haven't had the opportunity to carry mine for any real distance. I just acquired it this weekend.

You know, I have no real use for an M1 carbine (as with 98% of my firearms), but I sure want one.

Well, lord knows I love the way my carbine carries. If it totes that well, then everything's gonna be allright.

Not quiet that well.
The balance point seems to be just forward the mag (assuming 2x Scout Scope). So, if you carry forward of the mag., with all fingers on the forearm, and keep the barrel down, it carries well. Carrying just by the mag with the heel of the stock under arm isn't bad either.

The simplest to me is two fingers and thumb on the forearm, and two on the mag. The overall length is short enough that African carry with a sling seems to work out well also.

Of course, all of this may very well change, once I get it in the field.

I sent them an e mail about it back before I made this thread, never heard back... Yet, I guess

I shot them an e-mail last night and got an answer this morning. There has been interest and he said to check back in a couple months as he is looking at making them. More interest would likely speed things along...
