there was a recall on them due to faulty drop safeties but Ruger has been taking care of customers pretty well, I hear they are making other changes when you send them back.

Personally, the concept and package is very appealing to me, but a good deal of what I've heard locally and read in the 'zines has got me waiting until a few more of the bugs have been worked out before I do any swapping or selling to get one.
I've had some expensive and frustrating experiences with early production run items of several sorts. While Ruger has a history of not extracting the cost for beta-testing new models from the customer, some problems that can pop-up in that process aren't curable with a simple retro fit part replacement.
With discretionary cash in as short supply as it is at our house right now, my innate caution is telling me to wait. Ruger has almost always responded to feedback from the market with positive changes in their products that correct any real problems and make them even better values. I'll see what happens before I make the switch.

A friend of mine has one and I put a few mags through it a month or so ago at the range.
I hated it. Ergonomics were off for me....long, thin grip, backend heavy, safety in a illogical place, etc. Trigger was HORRIBLE. Like pulling through a sand trip and a weak snap at the end. Nothing like breaking a glass rod. (I have a G27 and a USPc, so I know junky triggers)
I thought it was too big, too klunky and had a horrible trigger. Shot fine, cycled fine, went bang every time I pulled the trigger, but not my kind of pistol.

Mine is at Ruger right now for the recall but I love it.
I'm left handed an the pistol is nicely ambidextrous.
The grip fit my hand perfectly.
The trigger smoothed out to a very reasonable 5.75 lbs.
Accuracy was good.
Very nice factory sights.
Opinions vary quite a bit and the individual pistols seem to diplay quite a bit of variation (especially depending on how much they've been fired and if they've been dry fired without a magazine).

I've never shot one, but I've handled a couple. The ergos felt really good to me, though the safety wasn't as logical for me as a 1911. Again, ergos are a highly personal thing, and despite my big hands I prefer slim grips on autos. Sights were easy to pick up, and it pointed pretty naturally, more so than many other double stack autos.
But...
That does seem to be the most common complaint I've read about the SR9, and many other new guns for that matter (I'll throw my old XD9 into the list of guns with junky stock triggers ... and even my SA 1911 had a crappy trigger out-of-the box). The weight was fine (heck, DAO 642s aren't heavy to me), but the SR9s I tried felt like they had rocks in the action. Most horrendous trigger of any gun I've handled, period. Lots of creep, and a sloppy letoff. One had a terrible bur just before letoff, essentially making the trigger unuseable. I'm guessing the amount of effor that had to be used to overcome that "lump" was upwards of 20 lbs+++. And I did have the magazine in the gun, as I've heard the SR9 should not be dry fired without the mag in place. Maybe the two I looked at had been dry fired without the mags in place, who knows.
Anyway, I am sure a good gunsmith could clean it up though. I liked the way it felt otherwise. Then again, I'm not in the habit of buying the first run or two of anything, from cars to guns.

I have one of the older models that hasn't been refitted since the recall. I still like it but I'm hoping the new trigger will be an improvement over the original. I love the way the gun feels in the hand and I like the way it shoots. IMO its a decent gun for the price and slim enough to make a great carry gun.

I really like mine. It is very accurate, eats all flavors of 9mm perfectly and the trigger was a little gritty at first but has smoothed out nicely after a few hundred rounds. Mine still has to go back for the recall but I'm still shooting it until the box arrives. I also like that ruger is providing a free mag for the hassle.

I absolutely love mine, and if its any better when Ruger does their trick on it, it'll be practically orgasmic. Dead on accurate, and seems to feed whatever I stuff in the barrel.
I've kept mine out of service for a while since Ruger announced the recall, but I still shoot it occasionally, and still carry it occasionally... but for the money, it's been a deal from the get-go. If all my guns performed as well as this one, I wouldn't know what to do with myself.
I shoot a lot of Smith and Wesson products, and it's comparable if not superior to most of them in that caliber. I'd be hard put to choose between them if I had to choose "only one".

I like high capacity guns, and this one just keeps on shootin'... pop another clip in it, and you can empty a box of ammo in a hurry... accurately. I bought a Beretta 92FS about the same time I bought the Ruger, and have found the Ruger to be a far superior choice for performance. It could be a loose nut behind the trigger, but my scores using the Ruger are much higher than with the 92 at the same ranges... and I like my 92 as well. It just seems to be a more finicky gun, and stovepipes with me sometimes if I'm shooting "white box" ammo. I can't remember a single FTF with the SR-9.

I guess the question in my mind is if I wanted a high capacity 9mm, would the SR9 be preferable to the Glock 17? I just sold my Berreta 92 and I want to eventually get another high cap 9mm pistol. I am keeping my ears open. The FN P9 is also under consideration.

Bought one for my son and now waiting on the recall box to show up in the mail. I like the pistol pretty well except for the crappy trigger. It is worse than my Glock. You pull it back and it stacks horribly then you get a hard break at the end. I understand that this problem may be part of the fix in the recall. I admit that shooting 1911's with 2 1/2 to 3 lb. triggers will spoil you, but this is one of the worst I have ever seen. Otherwise, the gun shoots well and feels good in the hand. I like slim pistols and this one fills the bill on that point. If the recall doesn't fix the problem, I'm going to break it down when I get it back and do some serious polishing on the internals.

I am STILL waiting for my shipping box. Since April.
I am a 1911/Highpower, guy. Bought the SR9 on a lark, because I could get it cheap $350. I like it. Trigger ain't a tuned 1911, but what else is. The trigger on mine is much better than any Glock I have ever owned (12) or shot (+/- 20). Best striker fired handgun I have shot yet.
I do like that there is another American Marque that may really work as a service pistol, again. Nothing wrong with the S&W M&P, I will probably be getting one, when I can find one right. But I do like the SR9.
We will see what happens. It is a shame this recall has stopped Ruger in their tracks. I hope they can get some momentum going again on the sales of the SR9. The three non recall recalls that Glock has quietly had hasn't seemed to hurt them at all. We will see.

UPS picked up my gun today, so I'm about 2 weeks from being "hot to trot" with a new trigger and a "safe" gun... so Ruger IS sending the boxes and getting the work done. I was at the 
stage also...

I got my SR9 back from Ruger yesterday. Came with an extra magazine and a hat.
The trigger feels a little stiffer but it has a shorter travel, less over travel and a shorter reset.

Hi from a noob. I just got one and have fired a little over 200 rds so far(one event). I'm really new to hand guns so ignorance will show somewhat. The only problem I had was some misfeeds the first few magloads. I was using relaoded 124gr bought at a show. The last 100 rds or so...no problem
I will use Winchester white box (115 gr) the next time...$20/100 at Wal Mart.
I read several reviews on it including one from guns and ammo where they put 12,000 rds through it with no issues.
I just cleaned it and it had some traces of heavy grease inside. I can report more, later, when I'm more familiar with it and pistol shooting in general.
