If you click on the gun photos it will take you to the S&W website for each particular model. The MSRP is listed there. Although they are pretty well discounted. For example the first PC1911's MSRP is nearly $2300 and they are selling for $1500-1600.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and to me those are some really ugly guns. Especially the wavy slide serrations. UGH! Looks like a photo of a 1911 that got wet and dried out funny.

Until this most recent batch the only scandium model was the 1911Sc and it has a steel slide. The frames have a small percentage of scandium in an alloy that is mostly aluminum.

Interesting question though because this alloy is said to have the strength of steel which begs the question why not make a slide and frame from it if that's true? It sure would be light weight, but I don't think it's in the cards.

There are different kinds of stregth. Tensile and compressive are just two examples. An aluminum/scandium alloy might be as strong as steel, or it might be that old "pound for pound it's as strong as steel" bit, which conveniently omits the part that says "but because the alloy weighs only 1/4 as much as steel it's only 1/4 as strong."

Aluminum is truly lousy in resistance to impact deformation, and a slide on an automatic weapon takes a real beating. If the scandium alloy is mostly aluminum, I'd guess that's why it isn't used in the slide. That plus the lighter weight would really mess up the timing.

I like the new look except for the machinining line along the recoil spring plug tunnel. That horizontal line where the radius meets the flat portion looks like the cast Auto Ordnance and Essex slides....yuck! I like the S&W logo on the ejection port side and I heard that the other side features much smaller lettering, more like S&W's other pistols.

A 10mm would be sweet. Kimber dipped their toes into the 10mm pool last year and it seemed to me that they sold pretty well, however that's just gun board based speculation.

What I'd like to see are checkered front straps on their scandium framed carry guns.

Truly - beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

IMO those are some of the best looking 1911's made. I especially like the Black Glassbead finish. And the S&W 1911 Target (SS) I own is a shooter - most accurate of all my pistols.

If they'd make (or Kimber or SA would make, for that matter) a full-size 1911 in 9X23 I'd HAVE to buy one.

If only....

Larry

Larry if that's what you're holding out for I'd say that you're pretty safe from never having to purchase another 1911. :D

Sorry dude, couldn't resist. :)

I have seen exactly one Kimber in 10mm in person. I think it is still sitting in the shop display case along with a Colt Delta Elite, blued. They have overpriced both and are unwilling to negotiate, so there they sit. Othewise I do think Kimber's 10mm's have sold well. I know Dan Wesson's 10mm's sold very well and are impossible to find around here.

I'm pretty impressed with Smith's array of 1911's!

I have a 1911Sc and, IMHO, it is one of the finest 1911 pistols I have ever owned and shot. If the array of 1911's that Brass Balls has presented for our convenience, performs as well as my Sc and the other "first generation" S&W 1911's the gun buying public will be well served and well satisfied.

I love the .38 Super but how do they justfy the price tag!?!?!? Hopefully they will eventually lower the prices. Here in MA S&W is pretty much your only choice for a new 1911. :fire:
