New S&W 340 PD Thumblatch "loose"

Picked up a few days ago my new Smith 340 PD. Too light to believe and can't wait to light it up next week. BUT, here's a question anyone else who has one would be able to answer: Working the thumb latch, there seems to be some play in it...if you grab the latch, it can be wiggled up and down a little, and even rotates just slightly. There is no play in moving it forward to release the cylinder. I checked the screw on the thumb latch, and it is tight. Should the latch "float" like this? Is this normal, or is there an internal screw that might be loose? Thanks Guys!!

You description pretty much describes the fit (in varying degrees) of the thumb latches on my S&W revolvers. As long as it functions correctly and does not mar the frame, it should be good to go.

Better too loose then too tight.

Too tight and it won't work right when it gets belly button lint in it.

Loose is good. I actually file on some of mine to loosen them up. In a nutshell it takes pressure off the plunger spring and allows the cylinder to turn easier.

Mine fell off last week...I've yet to call and find out what to do to get it fixed. There's a stud with a nut that holds the thumblatch on. I just need the nut. Still like my M&P340 though...
