I would like to put a red-dot on one of my MkIIs (probably the shortest I have, the 5.5"). Anyone used this?

The seller is only a short(ish) drive from my home, which is a plus, I guess. I like supporting local businesses, all other things being equal. OTOH, they require choosing from a list of sights to mount on it:
RMR
Deltapoint Pro
Burris FastFire
Vortex Venom
Sig Romeo
Holosun
Nikon P-tactical

So, two questions. 1. Are bases for those sights so different that they’re unique, or does it seem likely that there is cross-compatibility with some of them? (I’m emailing the seller to ask this, too)

2. Which of these sights would you recommend, if any? I am not really a Bullseye Pistol shooter, but that is the closest event to the type of shooting I prefer. I would be shooting this package primarily at 25 yards, at least when weather permits using the outdoor range.

I had a similar mount from Burris, worked well, had the Fastfire III on it, great sight.
I think all the sights you have listed use the same mount.
There are at least 3 different mounts for MRDs.

If you don’t want to remove the rear sight you can install a factory picatinny rail and use whatever red dot you want, as well.

ETA: apparently the MKII isn’t drilled and tapped for screws

I have two other MkIIs, or will soon. I've had a 10" bull barrel for over 30 years, and own a 6-7/8" tapered bull barrel that after buying over a month ago via Gunbroker I was finally able to do the 4473 on yesterday and will be allowed to take home in two weeks. So, taking the rear sight off the 5.5" won't leave me with nothing to shoot irons over.

What size dot do you prefer....2,4,6 MOA?
I have an UltraDot on my MKII but that’s old school.

I'd go with the Vortex Venom on an EGW dovetail mount. Vortex has the best warrantee I've seen. The dot is nice and clear and depending on what you are going to use if for: i.e. Steel speed shooting, the larger dot is the way to go. For precision go with the smallest dot.

As I’ve gotten older red dots produce a burst effect and are not as sharp as they use to be. And the effect changes with light to dark lighting and selected dot size. I just put this on my Frankenruger today and took it to the range. Burris FFIII and dove tale mount. I have a couple FFIII’s as I like their unobstructed view. I like the closer line of sight you get to the barrel with the dovetail mount for small game. I favor the 3 MOA on my dots.

My only experience is with Burris, and it's a good one. I have a bunch: a Fastfire II on a Buck Mark and Fastfire III's on a S&W 41, Ruger MK II, and Nelson .22 conversion 1911.

I've only had one problem: a Fastfire III that wouldn't shut off properly and ate batteries even when it was "off." Burris sent me a new one.
