Have had a P6 for a few years, and it was always my most favorite pistol; alas, it was also the only Sig I'd ever owned. It had held duty as a glovebox gun, class-taking pistol, CCW, night stand gun, new-shooter-trainer gun, competition pistol (mostly informal), and tinkering project. As a retirement gift a few months ago, it had every single spring replaced (whether needed or not), along with a couple pins and small parts that didn't look so good. Never failed me once, ate everything I fed it, didn't mind the extra holster wear it took on, and never launched a part when I had detail stripped it. It sat in the back of the safe, swapping stories with my grandfather's Remington Model 12CS.

Well, to replace it, I'd purchased the best I could afford at the time, a Taurus PT 92 AF. No problems, ate everything from 115gr blasting ammo to 147gr carry ammo, and shot POA. Got a new set of grips for it (Pachmyer finger-grooved wraparounds), a StreamLight TLR-1, and even a basic $10 concealment holster. But it (needless to say) just wasn't the same.

Today, I was at the local gun shop I used to work at, just browsing around the .45 case thinking a 1911 might be nice, when I see the owner talking with the Sig rep. I look over at the non-1911 case, and there was something sitting in there looking just like a puppy in a store window, which the Sig rep had apparently just dropped off. I raced back home (cursing the speed limit the whole way), and returned a short time later with the Taurus to trade.

When I left the store again, the sky seemed a little less gray as I drove to the range. And as I left the range, a warm feeling came over me, and not just from the freshly-shot pistol in my IWB holster.

My P6 came out from the safe again, briefly, to meet the new member. The resemblance is quite close, although the P6 is a tad smaller with a bit more experience. It handed down its old El Paso leather, which fits it handsomely and comfortably, and even the TLR-1 went on as though the Taurus was nothing more than a polite but temporary solution. The only issue was that the new pistol can't digest the P6's food, having a slightly more expensive palate. Regardless, I have every confidence that I finally have found my perfect pistol for HD, possible competition, and I can even conceal it surprisingly well.

I think my P6 spoiled me for reliability, ergonomics, and accuracy. Even double-stack Sigs don't feel quite right to me.

But my new friend, the P220R, feels like an extension of my being. I should've got one long ago... :)

Not actually mine, but always nice to have a picture to go with a read

Already did. :D Ran through two boxes at the range with the packing oil still in it, and zero problems. Now I just need to find a good source for .45 ACP.

I also like my P6 very much, and I also would really like a 220R. I'd prefer one with a beavertail though - I know it's basically extraneous, but I like the look of it.

For me, it's budget - and I can't make up my mind between a 220R and an M&P .45.

Congratulations on your latest edition and I'm with you on this one. I have a number of SIGs and not one of them is a double-stack. The P220s, P225s and P239s are GREAT pistols and as you know from your P225/P6, and as you're discovering with your P220R, they're super reliable. I shot a little over 200 rounds through a P220 Combat (IPSC match) and P220 Carry last week and I'm still smiling.

Hang on to your hat though, someone will be along shortly to knock you down a peg or two. They'll tell you how today's SIGs are not what they used to be and that you should have bought an older model. They'll tell you that your experience is the exception rather than the rule and that you'll be lucky to reach 1,000 rounds before the pistol falls apart.

That's why Top Gun Supply sells replacement parts, anyway. :D

I don't care if my slide is stainless instead of stamped carbon steel. I don't care if it's made in Exeter, NH instead of Gebildet in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. I've handled the older models, and they're great. I bought a new one (according to the box, it was made about a month ago), and it's great. :)

Congrats.
I love the P220's grip shape above all other pistols.
Mine is a P220 ST (railed). Great gun, super accurate.

So now that I've got a single-stack 9mm and a single-stack .45, I'm taking a good, hard look at a single-stack .22... :p

Does the gun have the external extractor?

I love both the P220 and the P225. I have always considered the P225 a mini P220, considering that the P220 was orginally a 9mm gun.

How does it shoot for you?

Congrats on the new P220! I also have the P220 but the carry model. Of all the handguns I have, the P220 points to POA naturally. Even if I close my eyes and lift the gun to aim, the 2 dot sights are always line up straight and true. My only gripe are the magazines. It is difficult to rack with eight in the magazine, and the slide rarely stays open on ther last shot - on both magazines after cleaning and lubing them. Otherwise, it is a great gun!

You know, Sig makes a single stack .22 if you're interested.
I know. ;) The Mosquito has a ton of bad reviews, but it all seems like stuff that's easily remedied--as if 90% of the users were expecting a rimfire auto to match the reliability of a centerfire Sig. I'm going by the local shop again to pick up some more .45 and look at their "Mücken." :D

I would highly recommend the .22lr conversion for your 220...they are accurate and lets you build familiarity with the 220's controls and feel

+1 to this. It is a much better solution than the mosquito. :barf:

I also like my P6 but my P229 is a fine pistol also but I have been thinking about a P220 to add to the stable. Maybe a little later on. I would like the idea of just having a .45.
