Hi Y'All...

Picked up a Marlin 336C and ordered a WGRS/Firesight set from Williams for it. The front sight is dovetailed on a ramp and the Williams rear sight will mount into scope base holes.

Am tempted to change out the front sight and remove the factory buckhorn sight myself - especially since the only gunsmith within many miles takes about 2 months (at least) to do anything.

But I don't want to damage the gun or the dovetails so am wondering how to brace the ramp/barrel, and then the gun, when taking out the factory sights and drifting the new front sight into place.

Any suggestions ?

Or should I just grin and bear the ridiculous wait I'll have at the gunsmith's ?

Many Thanks All !

You should be easily able to drive the sight out with a brass punch & small hammer.

1. "Color" the edge of the old & new sights with a lead pencil to prevent "brass tracks".

2. Support the ramp on the end of a 2"x4" block.

3. Drive the old sight out left to right.

4. Try fit the new sight in the dovetail. If it will start in and go part way in without too much pressure, it will probaly fit.

5. If not, remove a small amount of metal from the botton of the sight with a flat fine-cut file and keep trying it until it will start in the ramp dovetail.

6. Once you have a good fit, lube the dovetail with oil and drive it in right to left.
