Iraq!!! Yeah!!!
My folks, who have not had a firearm in the house since the 70's (more reliably since I put my mosin in their basement safe), just went to a local store and found this nifty Yugo for me. My pops says the thing is coated inside and out with cosmoline, the rifling is sharp, with more of that damn cosmoline down inside there, and the metal parts have matching numbers. I can't wait to get that 30 days post-deployment leave so I can clean the heck out of it and shoot her. Thought I'd share.

Quick update.

Took her to a public range today and fed her some wolf. Everything cycled nicely, and I was hitting cans out to 100m. Of course, this is after 3 hours of spraying engine degreaser on all the metal and wiping, rinsing, and enjoying chemical burns.

god i love the smell of cosmo......great not i gotta go get another gun thanks alot guys....seriously thanks :)

Very nice. I have one just like that (also coated in cosmoline). It took about 5 hours to clean and I still haven't got all of it out of the trigger group.

Looks nice, I just picked up a Chinese SKS yesterday. It looks almost new but had obviously been fired a little since there was a little carbon on the bolt face and in the gas tube. The original owner had obviously never disassembled it and cleaned the cosmoline out. The firing pin was all gummed up. Makes me wonder how many double taps he had:uhoh:

Nice looking SKS,yeah my Yugo took a good part of an entire day to strip, and clean out all that cosmoline...I was sure i got all of it,then taken to the range, after an hours shooting you could 'small some cosmo' and still see a little dripping. It was well worth it,love my SKS's...

Why's everybody got to use brake cleaner and god-knows-what chemicals when boiling water works just as well?

Glad the rifle works well for you. Did it come with an old sling? The thing I like about the 'clunky' shape of the Yugo; when you sling it over your back it feels like you're lugging a
2"x4"--rather comfortable to lug that way compared to most rifles.

I still hate the sights, but it has grown on me. Hope you enjoy it.

I got mine at a Pawn shop last year. Someone already removed all the cosmoline for me.

All I had to do was fork over 160 bucks :neener:

nope, no sling, infact, the pics from my first post are as accurate as it gets. It was a joy to shoot, though, and I'm looking forward to my 30 days leave after this deployment is over so I can shoot 'er some more.

Also, I think it was pretty nifty that every single number on the weapon matched. That, in and of itself, made the price and cosmo worth the hassle.

Nice!!!! I picked up a Norinco here a couple weeks ago and love it. Enjoy and be safe on your deployment and Thanks a ton for your service!!!
