Picked up a boxed set of Smiths from 1984ish last week on Gunbroker. A 629-1 and a 63. The walnut fitted box came with a Smith Knife. I really just wanted them as shooters so the box, the knife and the grips are going to Ebay to get my cost down to what I wanted to pay for the guns. The grips are nice but I'll never use them and they bring stupid money at auction. I have some other grips that will be better suited to the range and field. The 63 pictures came out even more out of focus than these, and i already packed it away in the safe but I'll try to get a few later before I ship the grips out. After all is said, sold and done, I'll be well under $1000 for the guns.

The box needs repair/refinish before I try to sell it. The knife is already traded to a guy I saw trying to sell an identical box. The grips I just listed early today on ebay...user name "logicalguy". The N frame grips actually bring $75-110 from what I've seen. I would have sold here if I had a better feel for fair market value.

You want they should sit in a dark humidity controlled safe 'til I die?

Yes, maybe...

Who ever inherits the gun may really appreciate being able to put it back into factory condition. The original grips, knife, and box could add significate value in the future.

Good Luck...

Joe

I understand and there will be no shortage of other nice collectable stuff for my heirs to fight over when I die....but with the case so ratty and since I wanded the guns as shooters, this didn't seem like a good candidate for that purpose.

I have a 629 NIB, pinned, recessed and wood SW grips, as shown. When I got it, I sent Smith a letter getting on them about their cheese grater grips. A couple of weeks later I got a brand new pair of beautiful smooth wood grips. Then I never shot the thing. If I want to shoot a .44, I also have an Astra stainless .44 mag which I also haven't shot. It, too, is pinned and recessed. The hammer and trigger are both polished stainless.
