After 3 months of saving nickles and dimes I finally picked up a new/used M1911A1 Springfield GI. Neighbor friend of mine bought it a few months ago and after never firing anything bigger than an old Colt Hammerless in .380 decided that the M1911 was just to much gun for him. So he offered to sell it to me for 200 bucks. Didn't have the cash (Well I did but Momma said that that stuff was for paltry items like Food, house payment, non such as that) Said if I wanted it save up the cash. (Ya know after 17 years of being married she would see what is really important!!!:) ) But the GI came home to day after hitting the range and putting a few mags through it. Flawless performance, even with that cheap wally world fun packs. Sure felt good to have a 1911 again. I hated that day my Uncle Sam took mine away and gave me a Berretta 92F. After reading 1911 Turner Springfield test I feel I came out way ahead on this. One main thing I need to change is those sights. I forgot about mil spec sights. 25 years ago I most likely had no problmes (At least none I can remember) So untill new sights are in the picture. A bottle of white fingernail polish did the trick

Congratz. That's a helluva deal you got. Aside from a little erratic ejection problem (which I think I have figured out) mine has performed flawlessly through 700 rds so far.

Customize? Hell for now I am just happy to have one!!. New sights for one and a new extractor something more realiable. Better grips . Other than that I am happy with it. I need a durable service pistol. One to repalce my current daily carry. A 1858 NMA Remington converted to .45 Colt. Hell it has and served me well for about 8 years.

Congrat's my friend, you now own one of the most sought after
introductory 1911's on the market! :D And $200 is a excellent
price. If you haven't already, the next time you happen by a
gunshop/sporting goods store take a look at its stainless steel
cousin. Same gun as yours, but in stainless. It's a handsome
devil! :uhoh:  Enjoy~
