I ordered all the parts for this build 3 months ago while working on the road. I just got home yesterday. Here's the parts and pictures.

Shilen 4 groove ratchet. Took 8 weeks for delevery. It's bead blasted, 26", 7mm08, tight necked .312, 1/8.5 and perfect in appearance. hopefully it's a shooter. KIMG0217.JPG
Its planted in a Stevens 200 short action. KIMG0221.JPG KIMG0225.JPG

I lapped the luggs and bolt face

The stock is a Choate ultimate sniper. The nut and recoil lug are precision ground from Northland Shooters Supply. Vortex viper 6.5-20X50mm side focused. With the one piece rail from Eabco. KIMG0218.JPG

I'm pretty lucky as the throat isn't too long and the Hornady 162gr ELD's rest at an OAL of 2.935" and fit nicely into the factory magazine. The brass is Hornady.308 match and PPU 7-08 turned to a finished .310

That should be a great rifle. Three years ago I put together a 30 Remington starting with a Stevens 200 in 308 Win. I use it for cast bullets. It's a great shooter.

It's a shame that Savage discontinued the Stevens 200. It was a great base for putting together unique bolt action rifles.

Ring issues suck! I had crapy soft screws shear on a set under recoil once. Now only cheap rings I use are the weaver quadlocks, those have been pretty solid on every pair ive bought. Till looking forward to seeing how it did, even with the problems.

You know i got tons of 1" rings of half a different makes. And 1 set of rings that's 30mm. That one set just didn't make the grade....

KIMG0245.JPG the first group was dead center then lower left, upper left, upper right, lower right , then center right. All in this order at 100M

The first 3 shots were was sub moa then no consecutive group was sub moa until the last two groups.

Before the last group,I cleaned the bore with Hoppe's#9 and tight patches until clean. No brushes of any kind were used. The last group consisting 1 fouling shot and 2 groups of 3. The end result was 1" x 6 shots and with the fouler it was 1.5" x 7.....not too bad.

KIMG0242.JPG It's hard to see, but the scope moved almost a full inch forward. The flash bleached out most of the slide marks. And I moved the scope rearward to see if it would cover the most obvious marks.

I've used rings like you have there on rimfire guns, but have yet to try them on centerfire guns. What kind of rings are you going to try next?

Still pretty good considering the scope was moving around. I like warne rings, only used them a couple times but very solid.

It was windy at the range today yet It shot much better! No group over an inch excluding called misses after swabbing, foulers, and scope adjustments. No sign of slippage either!

I won't be shooting any matches anytime soon. The loose nut behind the trigger needs some work.
