I went to a 10 cent gun show this weekend and look what I found
I couldn't resist
But take a look and let me know what you guys know about this thing and what you think. It came with competition die set, 100 new brass, 200 rds. GP-11 ammo, all the access. and paperwork.
It's 7.5 Swiss you know!

Very very very sweet gun. Can I ask for the price? old full-bore gun?

Thanks,

HB

I would have to FIND or CREATE a way to compete with that gun! What a sweetheart!

"Gee...wonder if it's accurate?" ;)

people who love this kind of rifle should have a look at the site of Grünig & Elminger, a swiss firm dedicated to performance rifles. (costing from 1800 to 6000 Euro for the standard one's)

I'm saving up for one in 308.

they delivered most of the titles

greetings

Nice rig and probably a good deal IF you like to stand on your hind legs like a man and squint through the peep sight at a 300 metre target. It will probably feel awkward in any other position, though.

Me.

I shoot BPCR Metallic Silhouette, in which 3/4 of the targets are shot prone off cross sticks. Standing up to shoot the chickens is a real challenge, getting close to work.

HB there was no money exchanged. I did some horse trading for a very very nice Springfield 1903.

Ok, here's some rantings from lencac.
I had a Swiss K-31 about 15 years ago, maybe more. Anyway, It looked like hell but shot like a champion. I got rid of it a long time ago because it wasn't "pretty" enough for me. But I did get brass and dies for it. So when I saw about 6 months ago another K-31 in great shape for $250 I thought better get one of these while you still can. It took it, did a complete tear down inspection, clean up the stock a bit and reassemble. Anyway, it is totally deadly accurate. We all know the K-31's reputation for accuracy. I've had 2 now and they are easily the most outright accurate, most confidence building military issued rifle I've ever fired.
So I started to wonder is that just reputation or can I find exclusive reasons for why these type rifles are actually more accurate.
So I broke out the tools.

7.5x55mm Swiss Disection
I randomly selected 3 GP-11 rds.
I photographed the rds. in various states.
Here's some data to consider.
#1 #2 #3
Overall Length: 3.045 in. 3.044 in. 3.045 in.

Overall Weight: 413.4 gr. 411.6 gr. 413.9 in.

Case Length: 2.180 in. 2.180 in. 2.180 in.

Powder Charge: 49.3 gr. 49.2 gr. 49.3 gr.

Case Weight: 190.1 gr. 188.0 gr. 190.0 gr.

Bullet Weight: 174.0 gr. 174.3 gr. 174.6 gr.

Base/Ogive: 2.3374 in. 2.3360 in. 2.3361 in.

Bullet Run-out: .0021 in. .0017 in. .0022 in. @ogive

Case Capacity: 61.9 gr. 61.3 gr. 61.9 gr.

Powder/Case %: 79.60% 80.20% 79.60%

Bullet Dia: .3040 in. .3039 in. .3041 in.

Bullet/Lands:
(my K-31) .0165 in. .0171 in. .0169 in

Headspace: .0007 in. .0008 in. .0007 in.

So what do you guys see? A few things comwe to mind.
The rounds are assembled with high grade components to a very tight tolerence level. All most like handloads but not quite.
They open the shoulder up to 30.0 degrees.
Much like an Ackely improved
They use .304 in. bullet and not a .308 in. bullet.
30.06 is 17.3 dgrees and the 7.62 NATO is only 20.0 degrees.
Much more like a match grade designed round.
It opens the case up quicker so there's more volumn without sacrificing length
They make it a very tight chamber.
They make it have a very short throat so the bullet seats almost on the lands
All the specs and tolerences are tight like a match grade rifle.
Most military rifles seat standard military ammo with the bullet at least .100 in from the lands and the chambers a looser so no sticky rounds.
The overall quality and design is nothing short of world class.
Here's some pics. You see the band of wax sealant around the neck of the case?
So when I saw the Steyr/Anschutz/Swiss in 7.5 x 55mm thing I said , self? that is a bad ass rifle.
I might have to toss my Leupold 6x18x44 Target Vari XII on it. But I want to play with the competition sights for a while first.
I fired 20 rds. of that GP-11 ammo at 100 yrds. Bought it, ran over to the range. Didn't even sight it in just found where it wanted to hit paper and shot some quick groups. Maybe 1.5 to 2.0 in. groups just screwin around.
I think with some special loads we might have a Monster:what: Was more interested in seeing if everything worked.

Is there a reason why the 7.5 Swiss Rifles/Ammo is most accurate standard military issue rifle? I would say yes. The workmanship is superb. The overall design of the round is a thing of beauty and the manufacturer's decision pull in a few critical tolerences makes all the difference.

I can't wait to put some custom ammo through it. We had a talk and she told me what she wants :D

I'll take the 7.5 any day!

Steyr Range Report

100 yrds. off the bench, handloads. The pics pretty much say it all.

Styer CISM result

Hi Guys:
Well, it took some time but I figured the scope mount thing. I took off the Anschutz mount for the diopter type sights and installed Weaver type mounts ......... who wuddah thunk, uh?
So I found a real nice fitting pair of Burris steel quick release 1" rings that put the scope right down where you want it to be. The Leupold 6x18x42 VariX II target scope and this rifle are made for each other. It was love at first sight. So I mounted it all up, lapped the rings for straightness and bearing surface, bore sighted it by eye and 7 rds. later this is what I got. 5 rods. @ 100 yrds. off the bench.:DI LIKE IT !!!!

There's a pawn shop here in Medford OR that has one also. He wants $2K for it.

Did I mention that it has a 10 shot removeable 2 position magazine? One position hold the magazine in the rifle but will not feed ammo until itis clicked all the way in. Best trigger I've ever felt.
