Ok, here's some rantings from lencac.
I had a Swiss K-31 about 15 years ago, maybe more. Anyway, It looked like hell but shot like a champion. I got rid of it a long time ago because it wasn't "pretty" enough for me. But I did get brass and dies for it. So when I saw about 6 months ago another K-31 in great shape for $250 I thought better get one of these while you still can. It took it, did a complete tear down inspection, clean up the stock a bit and reassemble. Anyway, it is totally deadly accurate. We all know the K-31's reputation for accuracy. I've had 2 now and they are easily the most outright accurate, most confidence building military issued rifle I've ever fired.
So I started to wonder is that just reputation or can I find exclusive reasons for why these type rifles are actually more accurate.
So I broke out the tools.
7.5x55mm Swiss Disection
I randomly selected 3 GP-11 rds.
I photographed the rds. in various states.
Here's some data to consider.

So what do you guys see? A few things comwe to mind.
The rounds are assembled with high grade components to a very tight tolerence level. All most like handloads but not quite.
They open the shoulder up to 30.0 degrees.
Much like an Ackely improved
They use .304 in. bullet and not a .308 in. bullet.
30.06 is 17.3 dgrees and the 7.62 NATO is only 20.0 degrees.
Much more like a match grade designed round.
It opens the case up quicker so there's more volumn without sacrificing length
They make it a very tight chamber.
They make it have a very short throat so the bullet seats almost on the lands
All the specs and tolerences are tight like a match grade rifle.
Most military rifles seat standard military ammo with the bullet at least .100 in from the lands and the chambers a looser so no sticky rounds.
The overall quality and design is nothing short of world class.
Here's some pics. You see the band of wax sealant around the neck of the case?
So when I saw the Steyr/Anschutz/Swiss in 7.5 x 55mm thing I said , self? that is a bad ass rifle.
I might have to toss my Leupold 6x18x44 Target Vari XII on it. But I want to play with the competition sights for a while first.
I fired 20 rds. of that GP-11 ammo at 100 yrds. Bought it, ran over to the range. Didn't even sight it in just found where it wanted to hit paper and shot some quick groups. Maybe 1.5 to 2.0 in. groups just screwin around.
I think with some special loads we might have a Monster
Was more interested in seeing if everything worked.
Is there a reason why the 7.5 Swiss Rifles/Ammo is most accurate standard military issue rifle? I would say yes. The workmanship is superb. The overall design of the round is a thing of beauty and the manufacturer's decision pull in a few critical tolerences makes all the difference.
I can't wait to put some custom ammo through it. We had a talk and she told me what she wants
