I have a new (since christmas) taurus 1911 and she initially had a bad extractor, but I took her to the range and put 100 rounds through her with no problems. I start to clean it and noticed some fine brass metal shavings on the top-left part of each of the two magazines I used. is that normal?

Did you get a chance to look at the brass? It could be the extractor is not tuned correctly and is shaving a little off when chambering a round.

Take a look at the magazine feed lips and feel how sharp they are. Check your brass for lengthwise scratches. Lightly sand the inner edge of the lips if they are sharp.

IMHO, Taurus engineers a decent gun for the money, and I own a few. But, one thing that always bothers me is that they don't seem to spend a whole lot of time engineering a decent mag...
