New to rifle loading. Just got my setup from Midway yesterday. Saw some 55 Gr. FMJ at a good price. They were discribed as takedowns. Upon inspection they looked like they came from the factory, no blemishes. I ordered 250 and for the price for paper punching i will order 500 more.
I'm happy. Just thought i'd pass it on.

I don't know what current supply is like but .223 blasters are cheap in general. Hornady #2266 is a great general purpose bullet with noticeably better accuracy than an FMJ. those are 8 cents in bulk. The Wolf 55gr are 6 cents in bulk but I haven't seen any of those in a long time. I'd get pulldowns only if nothing else was available or they were so insanely cheap it would be stupid not to.

Grab ya some H-335 powder to get ya started. Great powder for .223 55 grain loads.

I agree, I use H335 in most of my .223 loading. I bought 8lbs at a time when prices were in a better place lol.

If you can't find H335 look for some Hodgdon CFE223, Ramshot TAC, Alliant Power Pro 1200-R or Reloaded 10x, Accurate AA2230 or LT-32.

I am just listing all the powders I know will work well in the .223 cartridge but H335 and TAC are my favorites followed by CFE223.

You might try 223bulkbullets.com for excellent 55gr. FMJ's. They have new stock in and it's about $120- for 1000. I can defi

Midsouth shooters supply has tac and accurate 2230 in stock last night I ordered 3 lbs of tac. Tac was 27.68/lb and 2230 was just over 29.00.

Another vote for TAC with 55 grain 223 bullets. The pulldowns will surely not be the best on target. Expect 2 MOA or less but OK for blasting. I always find the JSP/JHP bullets are always more accurate than any of the FMJ type. Have fun and watch out for crimped in primers when you process your brass.
