New to 9mm

I am a newbie to 9mm loading. I have a new Xdm that I am looking for some load ideas for from you experts. I have a 4 die set of Lyman carbide dies on the way, some mixed headstamp brass, and mostly Winchester 231 powder on hand. Most of my .45acp and 38/357 loading has been done with Bullseye or W231. I am still with a single stage press(please Santa.....a progressive).
I plan on ordering either 125gr. or 115gr. Berry's plated round nose to start with. What are some loads that work well for you???
I am not in competitions as these old eyes are not that good anymore. I am willing to change powders/etc. if needed.
Thanks in advance for your ideas.............I'm just looking for a fun to shoot and reliable load!

Hello Mate,

I like to shoot VV320 through my Berretta 92 while my wife's Berretta 92 Vertec likes a nice snappy load with Power pistol. With Berry's 115 gr. plated, I load 5.8 gr of Power Pistol and with 115 gr. FMJ's, I'll bump it up to 6.0 grains of Power pistol.

I picked up a XD9 a year ago (keeping it for my grandson until he is old enough to have it ) to go along with my XD45. I shoot both using Berry's plated round nose bullets....230 gr and 115 gr for the 45 and 9mm respectively. The 9mm are sitting on a 5 grain charge of Unique with a Winchester primer. I hesitate to state the 45 powder charge as I'm using up an old partial keg of Unique for the .45ACP and don't want to guess how it compares to current production powder. The 9mm is getting "fresh" Unique.

Regardless of what you load, you'll like your new Springfield. I've enjoyed the heck out of mine and don't reach for the Series 70 any more when I load up for a trip to the range.

W_231 up to 5.0 grains makes a nice load for both the 115 and 124/5 grain JHP bullets.

W-231 is just a fine powder to use in any of the handguns you have, except, maybe, the .357 magnum. I have found that W-231 works much better in short barreled.357 magnum handguns, but not in the longer barreled ones.

Have you had any experience with W231 in a 38 SPL coming out of a 2" S&W revolver?

Absolutely. My wifes .38 Special is a S&W Mod 10 with a 2" bull barrel...And it works just fine with both 125 grain and 140 grain JHP and W-231. The mod 10 can take +P loads all day...

Isn't Berry's a plated bullet and not a true jacket?

If so, wouldn't this load be kinda hot?

And to the OP, does the XDm use traditional rifling? I'm prob wrong but I thought Berry's wasn't recommended for polygonal barrels like in Glock's and HK's. Might want to doublecheck before placing that order. Wouldn't want you to have a bunch of stuff you can't use.

Most of the plated bullets that I load are Rainier and they can be pushed up to, but not to exceed 1200 to 1250 fps. And I have, without a problem...

Seems to me 4.3gr of Win231 with Berry 124gr RN at 1.169 OAL made a nice target practice and IPSC round. It's pretty accurate and still comfortable to shoot 200+ rounds with in an afternoon. If I remember that works out around 1025 fps. That will operate the stock gun and still not sting your hand or result in malfunctions.

A regular XD has traditional rifling....I'm quite sure they didn't change it for the XDm.

Actually, Berry's say's their bullets can be used in Glock barrels because of the plating.
