Tonight I ordered an AR10 lower receiver. It is my first venture into AR10's. It came with a lower parts kit but NOT a buffer tube, spring and buffer.

Can anyone tell me if the buffer spring and buffer tube are the same as AR15's or are they different?

I cannot seem to find any explanation.

PSA.

Got the new Lower and parts kit for $208 shipped., $20 transfer fee to my FFL.

$228 total. Cheapest by far AND I love the quality of all the other PSA items I have.

You don't have an AR10 receiver. PSA make their 308 AR receivers to the DPMS pattern, not the AR10 pattern. That will be important to know when choosing the upper and upper parts.

308 ARs use a longer carrier than the small framed ARs. That means the right combination of parts will need to be found. For example, the S&W version of the 308 AR uses a carbine buffer. To accommodate the carbine buffer and the longer carrier, the receiver extension must be longer than the standard AR carbine RE.

Some 308 ARs use a standard AR carbine RE but a shorter than normal buffer. I know it sounds confusing, but it's a matter of finding the right combination of parts.

The good news is, certain dimensions are the same, such as the threads of the RE, buffer and spring diameters and the ID and OD of the RE

Yeah I just generalize AR's in .308 to AR10's. I understand the Arma-lite / DPMS difference.

Thanks.

Awesome info Thanks.

I am going to build it over time, because unlike AR's that I am building for $425-450, this is going to be probably 2-3X that. I think my next move will be the buffer tube parts and a Magpul PRS. I want to builld it with either an 18" or 20" barrel so a telescoping stock is NOT something I am concerned with.

Then standard ar-15 rifle buffer tube will work. Be sure you get the PRS for the ar10, the adj. cheek piece is smaller to clear the charging handle.
