What ever you do don't buy any from Uncle Elmer's Used Cap & Ball Surplus.
I did, and here's what I got. Cylinder half gone, cheap round barrel. No
loading rammer. No wonder I got a good price. Just bits & pieces put together

AHAHAHA! Riiiiiiight. :neener:

Are you going to "casually" shoot an old-looking cap-and-ball pistol OR are you looking to burn pounds & pounds of black powder feeding a shooting addiction (I'm with you, either way!). The higher priority you put on maximum durability & accuracy = the more I would recommend a Ruger Old Army. If you're just looking to puff some white smoke 6-8 times a year, buy the one that looks & feels best to you. A nice (steel framed) Colt 1851 Navy .36 reproduction (Umberti?) sure has a nice heft to it. You could wear a PAIR of 'em like Wild Bill!

Just a heads up from across the Atlantic...

When you have purchased your first black powder revolver you will get infected by the BP virus. There is no cure for it. Symptoms are bankaccount shrinkage and piles of tools and revolvers in every corner... Then again, you will become happier than ever.

Those who do not understand the importance of "how a gun feels in your hand" obviously are not arthritis sufferers....

@Ghost Tracker Its an addiction I think. Worse still the wife is severely infected too, kids have all finished college need I say more.

Friend of mine hunts with an old muzzle loader and another does Cowboy shooting so its inevitable I would get dragged in by the force.

@Hedning. I thought merry old England had banned all fun?
