new to bowhunting need some info

Ive always liked to hunt deer and have always used a rifle. My boyfriend and i hunt alot and he uses a bow and a rifle also. He is the first person ive seen kill a deer with a bow and now i am just fascinated. He has tried to teach me how to use his bow but I have a hard time with it. I weigh bout 95 pounds i cant pull the string back on his bow. I was wondering about the different types of bows and which are the best and ease of use for me. I have been searching and there is just way to much info so now i am really confused. What is the difference in a crossbow and compound bow ? In my search Ive also seen terms such as vertical bow, long bow. I just need info all kinds of it so if anyone can help please do. Thanks

Hi. Your boyfriend's bow is just too heavy for you and is likely has far too long a draw for you. Go to a bow shop and get fitted for a compound. The bow being right for you is essential. A good archery shop will fit a bow to your draw length and ability.
Shooting a bow uses muscles you use for nothing else. Back and shoulders mostly, so don't try to pull a bow that has a draw weight of a poundage that is more than you can easily lift. For example, if you can't easily lift a 40 pound box, you won't be able to safely shoot a bow of that draw weight either. You'll hurt yourself.
Your size means nothing though. One of the owners of the shop I bought my compound from long ago is little too, but she can likely take the antenna off a fly with her bow.

Go to archerytalk.com you can learn a lot there. My wife and sister both shoot compound bows and they love it if you have access to a good archeery pro shop they can help you find a bow that will fit you. A bow must fit you in order for you to shoot it well. If I were looking to buy another bow for a woman or child I would look at a Mathews mustang or a bowtech equlizer but for either of these bows get ready to drop some cash.

Remember that you don't have to spend a lot of money on a bow to hunt with. I Paid $100.00 for a 10 year old used Oneida 5 years ago and have killed 7 Whitetail just as effective as my friends with $1000.00 Mathews setups. Spend your money on a Firearm they keep their value!!!
