I found a S&W 1026 10mm auto in the used section at my local store, mechanically the pistol was in great shape, it had not been shot much and other than needing a good cleaning the internals looked almost new, the outside however was another story, it had allot holster wear and several scratches all over the slide and frame, no metal damage, just those light marks that you get with bead blasted finishes.

Well since the price was pretty low because of the way it looked and figuring with a little love and a nice bead blasting I could make it look pretty good, I decided to bring it home last night.

This morning I stripped the slide and frame down completely and re-bead blasted them, I then cleaned and lubed everything and put it back together, now there’s not a mark on it and other than a new set of grips it could almost pass for new.

The 1026’s are somewhat rare, they were only made for a few years and unlike most DA/SA S&W auto’s they have no manual safety, only a frame mounted de-cocker similar to Sig’s.

1026

Let us know how it shoots and how you like it, I have a 1026 on lay away now.

Congrats. The 1026's are faily hard to come by, so unless you paid four figures you done OK. I only have a 1006, but would eventually like to have one of each (1026, 1046, 1066, 1076, 1086). We'll see.

What a find

Looks great, you could probably sell it for 150 more than you just bought it for by the looks of it. Nice work, good find, good price. I want one too..... I can't seem to find one in my area, any 10mm, not just an S&W.

bead blasting

That looks nice. Are you going to be offering a bead blasting service now? You should, you got some good results and I have my eye on an old 6906 needing some work.

Very nice-looking blaster.

While the 1026s aren't nearly as rare as the 1046s (DAO w/ 5" tube - only like 145 of those made), they're not exactly ubiquitous on the used Smith market either - especially in the shape yours was in. You're more likely to see a 1076 or 1006. Plus, the price you paid was excellent.

Check beneath the black decocker tab for the two horizontal dots. That means your gun received the decocker unit upgrade way back when. (Smith did this on the 1076s too).

agtman = Thanks for the info on the decocker unit upgrade, I checked it and it did have the two little punch marks :)

axeman_g = Thanks for the vote of confidence, I have a few friends that I know will want me to do their Smith auto's when they see how this one came out but that’s about it.

Mike,

It's official, your a 10XX nut like me!! Now to continue looking for that 1046...

You've got to start looking for the 1086 & 1066 next. 1076 are easy...

Don't worry!

The 10mm is a "bug" that is incurable! You will love it! I have five handguns in the caliber, and nary a one will leave my possession!

I would have paid $325 too but you should have taken a before picture too to show us!

I know, I'm still kicking my self for not taking one.

I didn't get home from the gun shop that Friday night with it until 10:00pm and I had to meet someone at work at 8:00am that Saturday, since the bead blaster was at work I took the pistol with me and never got a chance to take any before pic's.
