My 4" 686 no dash I bought in 1986... 31 years ago. It is one of my favorites.

Around here, $700 is a steal for a 28 in good shape. I missed one for $800 and I hurt my back teeth grinding them.
It was in nice shape, if I knew what my finances would be this month, I would have bit. I saw a couple on GB for around $700 that looked good too.

This is my 686. It is amazingly accurate with handloads from 125gr to 180gr hornady HP/XTPs and commercial cast 158gr LSWC.

I have a couple of Colt troopers as well, a Mark III and a Mark V. Having shot them all extensively, I think the 686 is a better revolver. I have never owned or shot a Python...just a bit out of my comfort zone price-wise.

I always liked the look of long pipes on 686's, 375supermag.

I've seen that front sight before, is it height adjustable for silhouette shooting?

Hi...
Yes, it is...
Four positions...works very well for dropping 158gr and 180gr bullets on target out to 200 yards.
I keep a chart to remind me of the position number for various bullet weights and distances.
I wish S&W would re-introduce the adjustable front sight Silhouette Model revolvers. Seems a perfect fit for the Performance Center branch.
