New to me 870, Ohio National Guard

Just picked it up today. Good condition, few dings and scrapes. Rack number 32. Little front heavy, but points well. Anyone know what type of sling was on it originally?

It’s the Remington bayo lug. It has 3 screws from one side to the other.

My 870 folder should arrive on Monday.

The ONG 870 Riot shotguns were fielded from the early 70s to at least 2005, so they would have come with either a M1 sling or the later "silent sling" according to what I have found. Go with whichever era you want, and maybe match a period correct bayonet to it.

I didn’t find out about these until late in the day, I called Vance’s about 7 pm and they only had a couple left. I count myself lucky to have gotten one at all. If I had called earlier I probably would have bought two.

I think that bayonet lug is not for the 1917 bayonet, but for the M7 from the M16.

I find it particularly interesting just from the standpoint that it is a 870 with a military pedigree.

Here is my ONG 870 folder as received. Pardon the poor photo quality.

It is in relatively good condition with a few scratches, several patches of very minor surface rust, and an AG sticker on it.

Unfortunately, no. Wish I had.

Saw them posted on another forum during a quick lunch and ordered the folder between bites.

I debated adding a fixed stock to the order after work before they sold out, but I am way over my firearms budget for this year, so I resisted.

I am going to regret it because word is that they'll triple in price in the next several years since they are such a rare version of the 870.

CMP has the green cotton M1 slings if you want to go that route. They also have M7 bayonets available.

I went with the M16 black nylon surplus slings from Centerfire Systems. They were only $5 each but after buying four and paying shipping and CC fee, the total came to $30.85 ($7.72 ea.). They do come in original packaging as NOS from the 80s.

Thank you. I bought a couple 1960’s era green nylon slings. Surplus unissued. I already have an M7 bayonet.

They would have had the 'silent sling' (standard M16A1 issue sling), as in the cover pic form "Buckeye Guard" Summer 1993 above.
The 38th Div soldiers in the bottom pic have non-regulation 'slip-over' slings issued as a field expedient measure. Looks like the Colts won!
