I just picked up a lightly used flat black Cz 75b with two full capacity magazines for $400+tax today. I am thrilled. I have a CZ 75 that I really like but I could not find any magazines that fit it anymore. So while I found 75 to be a wonderfully accurate, fun to shoot gun, I could not really use it in competition becuase you need at least three magazines to compete in IDPA.

I went to my local gun shop and there in the used gun section was a beautiful standard CZ 75b that had been lightly used by the previous owner. My only complaint about the gun was that the factory plastic grips did not fit it a well as I would have liked. Naturally, I bought it and went back home, ordered two more meg car magazines and the factory rubber grips.

Tomorrow, I hit the range!

you will not be disappointed. Great gun and I like the rubber grips too. also one of the best looking pistols on the market.

Can't you open up the mag well or something on the pre B's to get them to except mec-gar mags? Nice score btw you can never have to many around the house.:)

I use my BD in IDPA as well. Don't really consider myself highly skilled, but it still gets me within the top 10% most of the time. It's the natural grip angle and exceptional ergonomics.

Zeb21, Good find--good pistol.
I use my 75B in USPSA production. The B trigger won't be a good as your 75, but gets much better with use. Sounds like you're going to use it.

Enjoy

Disappointing range day. I had four malfunctions in 125 rounds of 115 grain fmj, Winchester White Box. Each time the malfunction was the exact same. Midway through the mag, the slide would lock back.

I do not shoot with my thumbs extended so I am not tripping the slide lock with my thumbs. I believe the bullets are tipping the slide lock at it extends very near the feed ramp.

I am taking it in on Monday to my gunsmith to see if it can be fixed easily, otherwise the gun is going away.

My CZ75B-SA would lock back on a partial mag, so I filed a bit off the slide stop engagement nub. Fixed the issue, and there is still plenty of nub there to lock back the slide on empty. This was only an issue when using HPs, that were loaded long to feed reliable in my 9MM AR-15.

The CZCustom shop sells a slide stop ADVERTISED to not hang up on bullets in a partially loaded mag. ($34)

First I'd heard of it. I have heard of it hitting 147gr long nose bullets. I had filed some of the back of mine off to clear these 147s.

I know this, as I just ordered one to replace the one that broke last Saturday during a steel match. :-(

Jeb21: This slide stop could be the issue. Mags/springs can also cause problems, but if one mag was new, then I'd look at the slide stop like JDGray stated..

Mine had this problem strait out of the box. In my case, the issue was caused by a weak slide stop spring. A new spring solved the problem. Some people have fixed this problem by giving the spring a slight bend to put a little downward tension on the slide stop.

In fact, when I contacted CZ USA, the tech suggested that I try this, but since the gun was brand new, they went ahead and sent me a replacement part.

The spring isn't hard to remove, but you will need a small punch, should you decide to do it yourself.

Thanks guys. I have the gun in with the gunsmith now and we are going to try the slide stop spring and the slide stop nub itself.

Got the gun back, the gunsmith found that the recoil spring was too short, an indication that the weapon had been shot more than I thought maybe. He replaced it with a 20lb recoil spring! Sounds a bit heavy but I will check it out tomorrow. He also polished the slide stop a bit. I will let you know hat it works tomorrow night.

CZs come factory with pretty weak springs, still may not have been fired much. I know my brass lands in the next time zone with the original spring:D
The Wolff 16# spring I put in it was way longer, and I didn't like the feel of it while racking the slide, but it works great.

Took the CZ to the range today and every thing work great. I used the exact same brand and type of ammo this time (Winchester White Box 115grain FMJ) and all four of the magazines. I fired 100 rounds, including about 15 rounds weak handed only. No problems. I was worried that such a heavy spring would make the gun more susceptible to limp-wristing, but no problems. Recoil was mild, as you might expect.

So I am now on the hunt for some good leather for it and then I will be using this gun as one of my IDPA guns. Once I have had a chance to test its reliability with hollow points, then I will rotate it into defensive use as well.

Thanks to everyone for your helpful comments.

"CZ75B "STD" recoil spring is 14#.

gunsprings.com (Wolff Springs, $7.89)"

Thanks, I saw that in my research before I bought the gun. I had a long talk with the gunsmith about such a major upgrade in recoil spring strenght. Ultimately, he just said trust me and if there are any problems then we will fix it. He was right.

Jeb21, just in case you're interested, I saw this linked in another forum and thought of your original post here. Looks like they have a few Pre-B mag's in stock that you might be interested in. :)

Also, I'm a bit surprised you went with a 20# recoil spring (especially shooting 115gr WWB), but so long as you don't mind it and it works. I would perhaps look into filing a bit off the slide stop or just ordering the already-reworked slide stop from czcustom.com (it's around $20-25 bucks if I recall). If you're more of a do-it-yourself'er, I'd refer you to http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=38489.msg212405#msg212405. If that fixes the problem (and I suspect it will), then you could likely go with a much lighter recoil spring while retaining that same reliability. My slide stops were fine from the get go, but I've been running 11lb recoil springs in both my CZ's (Shadow and Phantom) without any issues. Unless you're planning to shoot very heavy loads, I'd be surprised if you "need" that 20# spring.

Thanks! Bozwell! I will check them out.

I have ordered a 16# spring but for right now the 20# is running fine, surprisingly.
