I figure I've owed you guys some pictures for a while since I've gotten so much advice but haven't had tech to upload pictures.

The middle for are all Dan Wesson's
Top and bottom are Smith and Wesson's
1 DW is 44 Magnum, that is a Beast! But almost 0 recoil, you also don't need bullets to kill with it
Then 715s and 15--2
DWs really shine w 8 and 6 inch barrels

Hey, where do you suggest best price to get barrels?
I always end up giving up due to cost and just buying more complete guns with different barrel lengths, often that only cost a couple hundred dollars more

That's an impressive collection of beautiful revolvers, Huntolive. I see a lot of original barrels on eBay in a variety of condition. I ended up buying a new 4" HB vented for my 15-2 from CZ for which is very nice. (Post #7) I agree you can find a nice 15-2 for a couple hundred more than a barrel and a great excuse to buy another DW.

Thanks
Yup, I've never actually bought additional barrels I just end up buying another gun:evil:
Sometimes I get the right combinations and can then cell a complete revolver and match it with another Barrel I had and end up with a bigger set of barrels but I've never been able to stomach coughing up $300 just for a barrel when I can buy a perfectly decent 15-2 for 500 bucks

How do I get out of this cycle?

I had the opposite problem. After I bought the extra barrel I had to fight the urge to buy another complete frame for $300 to go with it. Kind of defeats the purpose of interchangeable barrels.

Most of the barrels I've bought over the last 14 years have come from Ebay, good or bad, it's where you can usually find what you want. And with one exception, the 4" half lug barrel assembly in the pic, they always cost too much. I scored on the one pictured at the bottom, as the seller claimed the barrel itself had pits. I have bought pitted barrels in the past, and it didn't look right, and so I gambled it wasn't really pitted, and hit the jackpot. I got it for $57, and a little work with a Lewis Lead Remover got me a nice barrel! It turned out someone had shot some really soft bullets through it, and just assumed the crud was pits. The barrel wasn't super smooth, but some jacketed bullets smoothed it up quickly.

As I had hoped, that did the trick. Was enjoying the heck out the revolver at the range until a squib round shut me down. They were some of my earliest reloads (from several years ago) and I had made a notation about getting distracted and experiencing some powder charge issues. My system is much better now. Got to shoot it only to 15 yards. Switched to my CZ P07 for the remainder of the session going out to 25 yards. At least the squib round was easy to address with the removable barrel.
Again your assistance has been much appreciated. This group also dated an old "glove box" revolver I have. Ends up the old S&W .38 was from 1946.

Glad to see you didn't give up on the gun, thinking it was "a dud" or whatever. But people giving up on a DW has allowed me to score a couple of very nice 15-2's over the last 40+ years.

Me too. Extra barrels usually lead me to the flawed-logic trail of needing a frame.

Of course, finding a frame is unusual so I settle for a complete gun on which I dislike the particular barrel.

Problem (not) solved!

Todd.

I'm a sucker for a Dan Wesson. Always have been. They have a certain look that just appeals to me. The first one I bought was this Palmer, Mass version. I bought it off a local gun dealer in San Antonio back around 1998/99. I was looking at some hardware under the glass and noticed this Dan Wesson with a $150 dollar price tag on it. I asked the shop owner if that was the correct price on the DW and he said yes, pulled it out and laid it on the glass. Story behind it was a regular customer left it on his back patio table one day after a shooting session in the Texas Hill country. Didn't discover it for a few (maybe more) days after it had rained. Had some superficial pitting on it as a result and brought it to the store and gave it up on trade on something else. Shop owner (a very competent gun smith) cleaned it up and parkerized it. I walked out with it about 30 minutes later. The most accurate handgun I've ever shot and over the years I've won 2-3 times more in whiskey in informal shooting competitions with friends than what the gun cost me .

The last one I bought was as a pistol pack off a friends son who was leaving the US perm to work long term off shore. Monsoon Mass gun was stored at his fathers house for prob 10 years and that I know of only the 8 inch barrel had been shot through. In fact, for this post I opened one of the barrel boxes for the first time as shown in the pic. Barrel is pristine. I've never gotten around to shooting this one. Just sits in the safe waiting for its day in the sun.
