recently i took a chance and won a used s&w 10-6 heavy barrel revolver on gb for $250. it was one of several from a n.y. dealer, and by its heavily worn bluing and pristine forcing cone & barrel it was probably an armory-maintained, corrections-issued sidearm: carried alot and shot almost never.

even if the oem wooden grips weren’t rough i would have replaced them with more comfortable (but a bit ill-fitting…i choose good taste over good grammar) hogue rubber grips.

i was absolutely floored by the 10-6’s, mechanical tightness, accuracy and ease of shooting. i got a beautifully pristine, richly blue 10-5 pencil barrel awhile ago. it too is a fine shooter but being in near perfect shape the 10-5 is more a fondler and work of art, than a shooter and a tool, plus the 10-6’s heavy barrel very noticeably tames recoil and muzzle flip.

this 10-6 h.b. is a gem.

thanks all. i ordered hogue grips specifically for a k frame, don’t know why not an exact fit. but it shoots really great and the slightly off grips and holster wear combined give it character as a trunk gun.
