This one has been sitting at my LGS for a number of months. My friend there indicated that he was willing to make a deal. I brought him two 22's and a 32 that I figured would be easier for him to move. I thought I would have to add a little money, but he traded me straight up.

It seems to have been shot very little. There is hardly any turn line, and it locks up very tight. I am glad it happens to have Pachmayers on it, as the wooden grips tend to be too small for me. It will be a good companion piece for my similar S&W K22. I think the barrel is 8 3/8". The finish only looks faded in the poor quality photo. In person it is like new.

I've never had a Model 14 before. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. :)

I owned a gun just like that when I was about 21 years old.
I had just started reloading using a Lee Loader. I owned 100 cases and every day that it was nice outside, I would shoot the 100 rounds of ammo and then spend the evening loading them. Rinse and repeat.
At some point, I traded that gun and regretted it ever since.

So, maybe 10 years ago I came across another one at a gun show, which I immediately purchased. I shot it last Friday.

What is there to tell ? They are a super fine quality revolver that shoots great. I love the 8 3/8" barrel length. I own a bunch of Smith revolvers but that is my only 8 3/8"

Awesome find.

Howdy

I have lots of K frame 38 Special Smiths. Mostly fixed sight old Military and Police models, and a couple of old K-38s. All terrific guns.

I came across this terrific Model 14-3 a few years ago in a local shop. It shipped in 1974.

The asking price was $550, which I thought was a terrific price for an almost like new in the box Model 14. But what the heck, I asked if they would take $500. The gun was on consignment, so they said they would have to get back to me. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I got a call back and the shop said the consignor had agreed to $500. I drove right back to the shop to grab it before anybody changed their minds.

The store owner completed the sale, and he commented that somebody had under priced the gun, he would have put the price higher, but a deal is a deal. Then he said, 'I think there is a box in the back'.

So much for the business of a box raising the price of a gun.

Sometimes you get lucky and you're in the right place at the right time.

Nice find.

I also just bought an 8-3/8" Model 14-3 to go with my 6" Model 14-3. Both are great shooters and I mostly shoot 38 Special wadcutters in them.

I'm also a fan of Pachmayr Presentation grips. I like the look of wood, but I just shoot better with Pachmayrs on my S&W's.

It looks like this one was made around 1979 or 1980. Thank you for reminding me about the box, Driftwood. I am pretty sure they had the box at the LGS, but their cases have gotten pretty full and they probably left it in the back. They have been very busy lately. I'll call tomorrow and see if they still have it.

I think this is from the batch where the owner bought 60-something firearms from a collector. Many were still in the box and unfired or barely fired. I still wish I had made him on offer on the Star 380 that looked like a little 1911.

Gotta say that an 8 inch barrel is tempting. My safes won't fit it. Must be fun at 50 yards.

Great trade! Love that 8 3/8th" barrel! Sure to attract a crowd whenever you take it to the shooting range!

Advice? Shoot it often anjoy one of the sweetest shooting revolvers ever made... I prefer the 4 or six inch but that gun will shoot REALLY well! Likely it will make you look really good at the range :)

I bought a 14-3 with 8 3/8" barrel a while ago and has turned out to be my favorite and most accurate shooting revolver I have. Especially with 2.8 gains of Bullseye under a Hornady HBWC. You will like it.
