I bought a used Sig 225, this was marked somthing other than "Exiter New Hampshire", I don't have it in front of me but it was "Tyson" or "Tyco" or "Ty....somthihng". Anyways, I bought it for $475+tax...which is a good price, not great but good. I bought it because the frame itself had virtually NO wear on the rails or finish. It looked new. The slide itself shows a little bluing fade, but not bad at all but had a slight surface rust going. I cleaned it with very fine steel wool and some oil, but I'm going to take it to a smith for a complete clean and to remove the back sight as I can see a little rust on the edges in the dovetail cut.

Shooting, the gun is a marvel. At 21 feet, off hand standing I was able to put about 18 rounds into one jagged silver dollar sized hole. I shot 1/2 of a 2 inch bulls eye out and this thing is so accurate, I aimed for the other half and shot it out. Comfort wise, it's a thing of delicate beauty. I have kind of big hands and my hands just BARELY fit all the way onto the gun. I thought the magazine lip would bit or start to wear on me, but it never did. I am super impressed. I tried a P239 but never could get a really good grip on it due to the grips being to small. I will carry the 225 where most people would normally carry their 239.

It isn't ready to replace the 228 or 229's but when July hits and that sun starts baking down on us in Texas, the 225 being slightly narrower and lighter will most likely become my prefered hot weather carry for IWB with a T-Shirt.

If you like Sig, and you are looking for a single stack like say a Kahr? or a 239...try a 225 before you buy. I'ved owned a 239 and a Khar P9 and K40....the 225 is in a class all it's own.

I owned a P225 and K40 once. I would choose the Sig over the Kahr anyday.

Both are great pistols. But personally, I prefer higher capacity CCWs. Which is why I turned them both in for a P229.

Tysons...I believe that is right. 9 rounds of 9mm is certainly not as nice as 14 -16 rounds, but I believe it is adequate, especially when you consider that a revolver holds 5-6 rounds traditionally and I believe the average self defense shooting is 3 rounds or less.

If someone has the actual stats and a source, please let me know.

SIG was breifly HQ'd in Tysons Corner, then they moved out to Herndon, then up to Exeter, don't kow the exact chronology. H&K is still in Sterling. I suspect that it's to be near the Federal government (#1 customer), and VA is a darn sight more gun-friendly than DC or MD (still don't understand why Beretta is in Accokeek, MD??? :scrutiny: ).

I have wanted to try one of these SIG 225 for a while now. I am a big fan of single stack 9mms. I have owned or now own the following single stack 9mms:
1. Kahr E-9
2. Kahr K-9
3. Kahr K-9 (I liked it so much I bought a spare)
4. S&W 3913
5. Star BKM
6. Star BM
7. Star BM (see #3 :) )
8. Nickle Star BM
9. Star B
10. Star Firestar M-43
11. Walther P-1
12. RAP 401

There might be one I am forgetting but I think that is it. I checked out the SIG 239 but I don't like it as well as the Kahr so I doubt I will ever buy one. The thing about the 225 that I find odd is, it seems as large as a full sized gun but is only a single stack. My Kahr is my favorite single stack 9mm and my favorite gun period. If I could only have one gun for the rest of my life, it would be my Kahr K-9. I am including my rifles and shotguns in this as well.

albanian....I wouldn't consider the 225 a fullsize gun. It is at best a mid compact...more compact than mid though. Slightly larger than a 239, which is a good thing in my book.

I love my P225. Although it's not the smallest pistol around, it makes a great carry piece.

Sitting next a my 226, the 225 does not look that much smaller; however, the difference is very noticeable when carrying (I think the lack of a decocker "bump" on the 225 makes a difference there).

I cut the lips on my mags off--my hands were too big to get all the way on the grip with the lips in place. The gun fits great now.

Alduro...I'm a relatively new member here . Please don't think I'm a troll or flaming you in any way . I sort of collect handguns . Well actually guns of all types . While I have never owned a Sig for some reason , I have recommended them to new shooters and friends . I have primarily 1911s , BHPs , H&Ks , and S&W revolvers . However I have a lot of respect for Sigs . I have just not seen or shot one yet that "grabbed" me .

Now that you know the way I feel about them , I want to mention that I DO have a Kahr PM9 . I bought it as an ankle gun and a pocket pistol for hot weather . I have tested it thoroughly with both ball and HP ammo and I haven't had one failure . Not even during the well known Kahr break in period . I only have it as a "niche" gun . I chose it over the competition (Rohrbaugh, Kel Tec, Seecamp,S&W .38) based on the total of all it's qualities (caliber, weight, dimensions, reliability, accuracy,+P ammo). I have NO criticisms whatsoever other than it's not my choice as a primary . There I choose a Commander sized 1911.

I don't understand at all what the reason is that you will never own another Kahr ? Are you comparing them to your Sig ? Isn't that like apples and oranges ? I just don't get it.It just doesn't make sense to me at all ...Tom

Sig P225

Of all the guns that I have bought and sold, my P225 is the ONLY gun that will never leave my safe. It is simply the finest DA/SA single stack 9mm that has yet to be made. Hopefully SIGarms will recognize its following and restore it to full production. That will probably not occur as the 239 seems to be the basket that SIG is putting their eggs (nice gun, but for me the P225 is vastly superior)

That said, my Kahr E9 is a close second to my affection as a CCW. I would never truly compare the E9 to the P225 as their tactical missions are not the same. The K9/E9 was designed to be a concealment firearm for civies and as a back-up for off-duty LEOs, a function that it serves wonderfully.

The P225/P6 was designed to be a duty side arm for a major European PD (Berlin if I remember correctly). It can serve as a CCW very well if the right holster it used or you can pull off the mexican thing.

Bottom line is they are both superior firearms that can serve their users very well it they fit the shooters and they shoot well for them (that is always the MOST important thing). Either one a shoother goes with, they will be well served and well protected. 9 rounds of 9mm with a spare magazine or two is more than enough, un less you think an army is after you :).

God Bless and good shooting!

Well dagnabbit, Boorow....

I leave town for a long weekend on the Riverwalk and you go buying new toys. Sounds like a nice one...another CDNN piece, I take it?

So, when do I get to shoot it?

:D
Regards,
Rabbit.

Hey Rabbit, how's about within the next week or so.

Tom and all others who are confused about Kahr vs. the 225, the guns are single stack 9mm's, quality ones at that, and there the similarity ends. The 225 is about the smallest I have been able to go without having to make considerable adjustments in grip 'ala Kahr.

Thus the 225 is the finest single stack 9mm I have found short of a 210, which I would love to meet the guy who carries that. :D

The P225 is a truly exceptional handgun, and one of the top three single-stack Nines of all time. Its absolute only weakness is a less-than-durable finish, something easily remedied by a trip to Tripp Research.

I'm another that found myself thinking along the same lines regarding SIG and Kahr.

I hasten to add that the Kahr is a fine weapon, it's just that the P40 I had just didn't get along with my paw. Sometimes, this handgun business is just about personal comfort and perception. I could not put 50 rounds through that Kahr without bleeding from the web of my hand - no slide bite in evidence, so it's kind of a mystery. Shooting that thing was a chore.

Logic would indicate that a SIG P239 in .357 would produce about the same results. But it didn't. In fact, it was FUN. 200 rounds through that little SIG and I'm still grinning like a little kid. I don't have a reasonable explanation. The physical dimensions are similar, the weights are off but not by enough to explain "fun vs pain" (members of DFW THR will attest that I'm not particularly recoil sensitive). To me, it's a mystery.

My hands are on the large side - M9's, Glock 21's and the like are comfy for me. I should have problems with the P239 but I don't. The P225 is like a "growed up" P239 with the P239's grip. Explanation as to the different perceptions, SIG vs Kahr: none. Perhaps when I've been at this a while longer I'll know why. Right now, it's SIG voodoo.

And I can live with that.

Congrats, Alduro!
