Orginal design that worked, and works..

...

Nice to see that you, let's call it fate, wound up with a Sig, designed with an internal extractor, that has worked, for previous owner/s, and still works for you.

As I said many times before, my NIB Sig P220, from 2007, with its internal extractor has worked flawlessly from day one, and is still, 100%, going confidently, strong at 1500 rounds, and counting.. ;)

Must have been my lucky day when I, by fate, just stopped by my local gun store and our eyes met (P220R) and I picked her up and took her home, with the, an, internal extractor, that keeps on giving me pure joy, by means of, doing the job the way it is supposed to be.. boom, boom, boom

Every shot counts, (with my newer gun, thanks to those who made the parts and put her together) the way your older Sig was, and is, with man's hands and parts that work, full time, all the time.

Everyone should taste the honey of a Sig P220 IMHO (one way or another)

My last P220 with the "new" internal extractor ran really nice up until around the 1200rnd mark and then I started getting the dreaded last round in the mag failure. These days I've started seeing alot of new P220's with their external extractor. Overall I think they defiled the P220 with some of their design and style decisions. Rella, they didn't just change the extractor design, they went ahead and muffed up a reliable and classic sidearm!
For the record, I've had 3 P220 carrys, 1 ran 100% from day one up to when I traded it, the other two starting taking a dump after the first few hundred rounds. Sig did fix them. 1 P220ST newer version that the extractor slide out of place a bit and locked the slide up on me, and damaged the claw in the process too. Sig fixed at my cost. 1 P220SAO as above mentioned was fine until it was worn-in, fixed and traded that one as well. I really believe that newer P220's with the new internal extractor design are far more problematic than any other variation to date, yes there are alot out there that run 100% too, but I'm done taking the gamble. I've had zero issues with any of my original German made P220's and some are pushing 15+yrs old and tens of thousands of rounds.

It is my understanding that it is the location that is a major part of the issue. Where they put it the tolerances are too tight. Others have reported the exact same problem you are reporting.

That is my major issue with this DEFECT. It may take 100 rounds or 1500 rounds to get malfunctions. You can fix it and it might last 10,000 or 100.

I also agree the older version was rock solid which is why I choose to buy a LNIB W. German P220 for less than the price of a NIB one.

exactly..... The only P220 I have had trouble with was a P220 SAS with a stainless steel slide and internal extractor.

It was a CPO that was a dog right out of the box. I sent it to Sig and then got it back fired 50 rounds and sold it with full disclosure.

I did the same when I parted with my newer styled P220's. Traded most away for original Sigs to friends that wanted the "newest" version of the pistol. I disclosed the extractor issues and provided them the paperwork from Sig documenting the replacement in event of future issues if they would have any. I've been working on a trade involving an external extractor P220, but with my luck, I'd probably regret it.

I have two W German P220's. Overall, by far the best handguns I own. They go bang every time and are extremely accurate. A W German P220, according to some, can supposedly last 200,000 + rounds now I'm sure you'd have to replace the recoil spring and things of that nature but a GREAT gun none-the-less.

Edit: I am NOT claiming that I have ever seen a P220 last 200,000+ rounds, I haven't... but some claim they have seen it.

Well the tag claiming the barrel was 2.5" was the same place wanting $500 (Grady's in Anderson, SC), which was quite idiotic. Why pay $500 for a used gun when you could buy a new Sig with a "much larger barrel" (i.e. 3.9", but right above the P6 with alleged 2.5" barrel) for $100 more?

My friend, just about anything from Grady's is terribly overpriced. You can get 95% of their guns cheaper in Greenville.

Did see a good deal on some .223's in there the other day though. They also want $40 for a simple TRANSFER FEE!

I actually purchased one gun from them, S&W Sigma 9mm. I paid $350 on sale (same price as Academy in Spartanburg, minus the gas to get there). The real old guy there doesn't BS you, and their used selection isn't terrible. They had another Sigma for $250 used, and a police trade-in Beretta .40 with 4 extra mags for $300.

I mostly go there to check out the decently-priced guns they do have, and to watch guys walk in and say "I wanna buy a glock .45" and listen to the "Ummmmm........" when asked "Why a glock, and why .45?" by the store employees.

(Of course, half of them are white kids with baggy clothes who heard it in a rap song.)
