Colt goodness

No markings on the barrel that I can see. Angle and lighting sucks or you could see that it has a NM float tube under those handguards.

Crap staking, but almost no wear at all on the bolt/carrier.

Here is the pic from the inside of the lower. It looks like the receiver was factory drilled with a happy switch hole but Colt put in a plug.

Bought it from the local store as a consignment rifle. They called the guy up and he said he bought it new as it sits and that it is a factory rifle. Said he never fired it. It looks pretty clean and everything shows minimal wear if any. That said, I'm not sold it came this way from the factory. It has standard pivot holes but the front pin is held on with a screw. The trigger pins are .170" and it looks to have a Colt Match Trigger. I was out the door under $1k so I don't think I did terrible. Could have been a bit better, but it looks to be either unfired, or very very minimally fired.

Been looking at getting either a DPMS or RRA NM rifle to play with as the local range has CMP matches to 600 yards. I figure with the pinned sight and everything with it I could sell it for $1k if I wanted back out. I hope it shoots.

This should go well with the Feinwerkbau 601 and Kimber 82 for sling work. Maybe a Palma rifle is next to reach out a little further. From 600 yards in though I should have all the practice I can handle.

Looks nice. I would buy a rifle, but ALL the rifles I want have to be neutered here in California.

I hear ya EAS... that one pic is like 2 tickets to trouble NY sucks too, can't wait for the sinking ship part...

As far as bailing on this, you must be kiddin us lol

Yes it is. The more I look at this, the more I think it's a WOA upper but without any markings on the upper/barrel I really have no idea. I'm 99.99% certain it's a mix and match as I really don't think Colt ever made NM rifles, let alone with pinned sights. The lower dates to early 90's and should have came with an A3 flat top and varmint type barrel/float tube. I need to swap the trigger out for a 2 stage. It's a nice single stage trigger, but not what I'm looking for. It should be fun to see how she shoots.

I picked up a WOA that looked just like that, although there's not much difference between them all. The bolt staking looks the same too :p

That's the trouble. A NM upper looks like the rest. It really could be from anyone, but with a staked rear sight it seems more likely to be WOA, though many people can pin a sight on any upper so it's still just a guess.

I have two WOP uppers and they look like benzy2's upper. The front sight appears to be adjustable and uses allen's, the barrel profile looks like my WOP's, and the pinned sights looks like John's of WOP. WOA and WOP are the same company, just depends on who builds the upper. Either shoot very well.

As for a 2 stage trigger, I have two RRA's tuned by WOP. I like them a lot but I also have a Griessle 2 stage which is hands down the best of the best IMHO. But they do cost a lot too.

I have not kept up with Colt, but I don't recall Colt ever making a NM rifle.

It is likely that someone put some big dollars into that rifle. It cost far more to make a NM rifle, especially using a Colt as a starting basis, than it is to buy a NM Armalite, RR, or Bushmaster.

When I was shooting service rifle you saw Colt match rifles being used by guys who built the things up. Then as the factory NM came in, Colts got rarer and rarer on the firing line.

Match rifles are harder to sell than other types, especially match rifles built on factory guns.

Bubba wants a factory gun. He don't understand all that front sight screw, floating handguard, two stage trigger stuff. Bubba wants "Mil Spec", because he saw an ad that said Mil Spec is what the Delta Force uses. The further from mil spec, the less Bubba wants it.

A Colt lower will always have value, Bubba likes the pony and will pay more.

I'm not a huge fan of having the oversized trigger pins, but Colt certainly seems to hold value so selling the lower on it's on should make up for any losses. Whoever built this rifle didn't cut corners from a NM standpoint, other than the trigger. I've got to get some 69gr and 77gr rounds loaded up and do some load testing, but I'm hopeful.
