Bought a S&W M&P R8 yesterday. Gotta love an 8 round revolver.
Took it out and put some 38's through it yesterday. Really liked it.
Haven't shot but one other revolver of later - my DW model 14 snub, so most of my opinion comes from comparing the Smith to it and semi-autos.
Trigger - I like the S&Ws double action pull better the DWs. Seems to hit sooner. I was not expecting it when it went off. I'm used to shooting non-1911 semi-autos, so the single actions on both guns feel perfect.
Sights - Don't prefer the v-notched rear sight, but that is what it comes with - I'd prefer a standard square notch. It works.
Weight - Like the nice light weight - we'll see if that is also a drawback when I put some .357 loads through it (took some ladies out shooting yesterday who are new to shooting, so I just stuck with .38).
Barrel - The 5" barrel is nice. Aesthetically and for having longer sight radius. The rail on bottom and the removable rail on top......We'll see if they ever add value. Might buy a mini-reflex someday that'll I'll share between guns. The lower rail does have somewhat of a cool look (in a tacticool kind of way).
The truth is that there were 3 S&W performance center revolvers I would have like to have put my hands on: M&P, 327, or 327 TRR. The M&P happened to be the one I ran across in a shop the other day and the guy dropped the price down to a reasonable level compared to what I've seen online, so I went with it.
Overall, very happy with the new toy. However, buying it was in lieu of getting started in reloading, so the cost of ammo is a bit of a bite. I shoot mostly 9mm, which is considerably less expensive than .38, let alone .357.
