I've lurked on this forum for a while and now have occasion to make my first post.

I have decided to make my first 1911 purchase a Les Baer TRS. I have read that a new TRS can be had for around $1500 and have seen listings on gunsamerica.com for that price. The problem is, now that I'm ready to buy it, I can't find any such listings, and every dealer I've contacted is asking much more than $1500.

Can anyone point me to a dealer or individual that can sell me a NIB TRS for $1500? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I think the cheapest pistol Baer makes is his bullseye model, and it's usually over $1600. I'd be surprised if anyone could buy a new TRS for that.

It absolutely staggers me to think of the prices people will pay for a 1911. I just don't see it. I guess I'm too "value minded", and not a huge 1911 fan anyway. I can't see myself paying much over $500-$600 or so for a handgun period, let alone two or three times that much.

But hey, it's your money and your choices.

There you go. :)

Perfectly understandable. I would pay $2000 for a 1911, but I drive an old vehicle, because I could care less about cars. :)

Since you brought it up, I agree. I paid $1500 for a Performance Center S&W 952-2. Aside from the very tight tolerances, my standard P99 is much more accurate and it cost me $550.00.

I can't see how people can pay so much money for clothes, for watches, for food. Whatever. If the guy wants to spend 50 large for one, so what? Hey dude, put the term "1911 forums" in the google or yahoo bar. Go to one of the two real popular 1911 forums. THere are people that post on there that talk about a place called Lightening Arms (I think). Anyway, just look around on 1911 forums. You will find some links to places that have decent pricing. I think you are going to pay around 1650 for a new TRS. One of the best guns on the market.

If true your 952 needs to go back to the factory because something is not right with it. They are known as one of the most accurate pistols you can buy in 9mm. Not knocking the Walther, but I've shot them and find them no more accurate than a BHP/CZ/you name it defensive pistol.

Personally, for a $1500.00 handgun, I do not think it is that accurate. Here's my latest target:

Sporting Arms has some of the best prices on Baers I have come across. A couple of months ago the TRS was $1620 but I think there was a slight increase recently. The PII was still under $1400 which is a smoking deal for the level of quality. I paid $1490 delivered for my TRS two years ago. At the time the PII was $1275 and I'm still kicking myself for not getting one. You won't be disappointed with a Baer. As long as you know going in they are built on the tight side you will be very happy.

Have you tried any match ammo? WWB isn't exactly known for stellar accuracy.

Actually, I have tried four different ammo brands. I know WWB is basic range ammo, but it's readily available and cheap. I spoke to a PC tech and he said that model is set up for 115 grain ammo. I'm not giving up on the accuracy per say, but I recall the most accurate ammo I tried (don't remember the brand) is no longer available.
