New Wrangler barrel lengths

I'm thinking a 3.75 plow handle will have to join my others in the safe. I passed about 5 years ago on a single six with that length barrel, and I've regretted that to this day.
I bet the 7.5" is easy to shoot for distance!

my firearms budget is being shot to pieces…

i got the orginal ruger wrangler (4.62” barrel, plowhandle grip) soon after its initial introduction. it seems top-heavy so i added the 3.75” birdshead grip version last december when it first came to market. the 3.75” feels way more balanced but i’ve never been a birdshead fan, in fact i sold off a ruger new vaquero 3.75” 45acp revolver only because of its birdshead grips.

now ruger finally introduces the wrangler that i really want: 3.75” plowhandle version.

wait…is a bearcat-sized wrangler coming next? or a 5-shot wrangler chambered in 38sp?

Hopefully a 5 shot Wrangler in .38 Spl. That'd be spectacular

It's amazing to me how strongly the Wranglers caught on. Sure there've been some that experienced issues, but in the main they are decent little low-budget, fun and nostalgic shooters that just plain work.

It's one thing to experience teething issues... it's another thing entirely to have chronic QA and QC issues like a certain price point competitor

Correction, after measuring my Wrangler cylinder... .38 Spl will not work... cartridge is too long for cylinder

how much engineering and money would it take for ruger to make 38sp (non +p) work, i wonder? i know that i’m reaching, but how about 32? after all, ruger uses its common lcr platform to accommodate a variety of centerfire and rimfire ammo…

I like that the Wrangler exists. Giving access to a quality built, entry level plinker.

I hope Ruger doesn't get so involved with the Wrangler that the Single Six vanishes.

I do not own any Wrangler, but have Single Six in 5 1/2" and 6 1/2". 7 1/2" doesn't really interest me. 4.62" is my preferred in center fire calibers. Availability in Single Six was the issue leading to acquiring the longer barrels.

I did have a bird head 3 1/2", not Wrangler. I really wanted to like it. I didn't and it is long gone.

Those are Distributor exclusives, but I love that they are available.

Hope a .32 cal follows.

As much as I'm not a Wrangler fan, a 3.75" plow handled version would be nice to have. Stoked with Stingers or Yellow Jackets and stuck in the china cabinet next to the back door, it'd make a handy "honey, there's a varmint in the yard!" gun. Like I needed another single action... dang it!

ETA: Bud's already lists the 3.75" plow handle version at $198 and the birdshead at $213... great, my new year's resolution of saving money may be shot to pieces in the first week!

I had a 6.5" barrel installed onto an old model Single Six that had a pitted 5.5" barrel. I don't have one of the new long barreled Wranglers, but I made the plow handle 3.75" Wrangler last year which has a great balance after shedding the zinc Birdshead grip. Not going to happen. The two guns might be similar in concept but the material, workmanship and finish (along with price :() are sufficiently different to allow both the Wrangler and Single Six to co-exist amiably and profitably in the same space. All is good.

The last single six that I saw caught my eye right away. It is a 6.5” Bisley model that I just couldn’t say no to.

Even though it doesn’t have the fully adjustable rear sight of my standard single six or Bisley .32, it has a drift-adjustable blade rear that gives me a much better sight picture than my Wranglers do. Even without adjusting, it still shoots pretty much POA at 20 yds with a bunch of different .22 ammo.

I don’t know if I will buy a longer-barrelled Wrangler. I love the 5.5” barrels on Ruger single actions best of all, but I think the 4 5/8” Wrangler will be good enough for me.

However, nothing is set in stone…;)

Stay safe.
