Don't know how real this is, but heck Ruger finally made a 1911 after all the fake sightings over the years.

I am primarily a 1911 fan but I do own 2 XDm pistols (XDm-45, and the XDm 3.8" Compact 9mm)
Anyways, Springfield Armory is comming out with a new XDm.
Here's the ad:

Considering they have full size models in 45 acp, 40S&W, and 9mm and compact models in 40 S&W and 9mm; I am hoping its a 45 ACP Compact.

If it is I am so trading the 9mm for the 45!

If it is a .45, if would have to be the compact 4.5. A compact 3.8 would have a longer grip than it would a slide and barrel!

They could make it like the compact 9mm and 40 with the reduced capacity. Maybe a 8 or 9 shot magazine.

My 3.8" compact 9mm, notice the shorter grip.

The .45 caliber XDs use a 13 round magazine, or a 10 round for the "compact" models. The XDm 45 uses the same 13 round magazines as the regular XD.

I am betting on a 4.5" barrel with 10 round magazines and thus "compact" grips.

I'm curious to see what it will be. The 3.8 is selling pretty well and it seems to be an answer to a question no one asked, a carry length slide with a huge grip to make carry awkward (I'd rather have a subcompact grip and a full length slide). I hope it is something different, either geared strictly towards range use without concealability in mind or something geared directly towards concealment...not some weird combination that combines the negatives of each (short sight radius + awkward to hide grip).

It seems like an awful lot of hype, so I think XDm fans will be disappointed if it is just another caliber release in an existing frame.

I'll be ticked if this is what they are making! I passed on a used 220 Compact because I am hoping for a compact grip 45 ACP XDm.

Forumsurfer...

I am an M&P guy, but I see the utility of the XDm compact.

When you carry the gun, you use the shorter magazine.

If you ever need to use it for home defense, you pop in the longer, higher capacity mag.

Not everyone has a lot of money to spend on multiple guns for different applications. I personally still prefer the M&P line, but if not for the M&Ps, I would get an XDm. And yes, I probably would get at least one XDm compact. If you had to limit the collection to one or two handguns, these XDm compacts would be mighty attractive.

I'd agree with you, but Springfield really are fans of hype.

Me, I'm hoping for a 10mm XDm even though I'm sure it won't happen.

Soapbox I tend to agree with you. I think it'll be a thinner CCW pistol something that could compete with a Keltec, LCP, LCR, Walther PPS. Hopefully it's at least a 9mm.

I would like to see something bold-- like a

small 380 for pocket carry. They just about have everything else.

Another Pocket .380, in this field? Meh.... :barf:
Now a compact XDM 45 would be cool, but it'd be similar to the XD45 Tactical that already meets that purpose for the most part.
I'd love to see the XDM in 10MM myself, followed with a compact version. None of this 3.8 inch barrel crap though. Make it 5 inches and make the magazines 16 rounders like the .40s. NOW we're cooking with Crisco.

+1. A slim single stack 9mm or .40, similar to the Walther PPS (rather than the Kahr or Kel-Tec or Ruger subcompact models) would be a winner though. Especially if the have it just enough dust cover length to fit my TLR-1, so I wouldn't have to buy a new light for it for home use.

But I still am betting on a .45 Compact, probably with the 4.5" barrel. Just my hunch.

i hear it's a .45acp with a 1/2 inch barrel, even higher bore axis, and a foot long grip that holds 20 rounds.

Hmmm - I don't get the move overall on the XDm. I mean does it make the XD that much better [and that much more expensive?].

I like the Tactical XDs and the longer barreled XDms also but I never got the disproportianate look to the stubby barrels and the super long grip - it seems counter productive to what you are trying to achieve in a compact.

SO - I would rather see a compact XDm. I like the small 9mms...
