Such a beautiful day today I decided to go to the range instead of sitting inside watching football. Besides, Kansas State doesn't play until tomorrow evening.
Son stayed up late, didn't want to go. Couple of buddies had plans couldn't make it either so I went by myself. Got there and it was already occupied. Private range, didn't recognize anyone but turned out they had permission.
The other group had three youngsters, and I was impressed by the way they all observed safe shooting habits, complemented their dad on that.
Shot groups with my custom 10/22, blew off a hundred or so rounds each of .45acp & .357 mag. Hadn't had the .22 Hornet out for a while so I warmed it up pretty good. Got the red dot scope on my 22/45 all zeroed and was dancing pop cans all around.
In general it was a good day at the range until.....
I drug out the old Turk Mauser. Somethings wrong with the ejector, had to manually pull the empties off the bolt. No big deal, proceeded to launch 30 or so rounds downrange at the 200 & 300 yard gongs.
Finished shooting it and went to put it away, leaned it against the tailgate of my pickup and it started to fall so by instinct I just grabbed it.
Any idea how hot the barrel of a Mauser gets after 30 or so rounds?
Oh well, it was time to go home anyway.
