There is a New York City Gun buckback set for April the 25th. I saw posters for it getting on the 4 train at Woodlawn this morning. I will try and get a poster or a picture of it and post it tomorrow. But aside from that . . .

Does anyone know the laws on FTF purchases in New York City?

Is it legal to buy a rifle in NYC without a NYC rifle "permit" if you dont live in the city?

I just though of this too, I'd have to take the train down their, is it legal to travel with a firearm on the NYC subway? (Funny thing too, from my breif glance at the poster it seemed the only requirment is that the gun be brought in a bag of some sort, paper or plastic is acceptable. No mention of it unloaded lol)

I wanted to go down to a buy back and possibly pick up a new firearm or two, their only paying $100 for a rifle I belive. I dont know any of these answers and heck it may not even be possible for me to do this but I always had the urge to go to one of these buy backs and try to pick something up for myself, but they never seemed to come around.

$100 for a long gun?

Jeez. The cheapskates here only give $50 for rifle or shotgun when they do their buy back.

That's no where as bad as California though... they gave out t-shirts with the "Governator" on it.

dam it'd be tempting to buy a trunk load of busted guns for 30-50 bucks a piece from a neighboring gun friendly state then drive to the buy back and turn em all in for 100 a piece...

of course that would be illegal and I would never do that

Yea their website sucks. It says nothing about selling a firearm FTF, buying a firearm FTF, or if your a non NYC resident buying a firearm in NYC.

http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/permits/permits.shtml

I dont want to call them and ask
"Hey would it be ok for me to show up at your little buy back and buy a few of my own" but if anyone else wants to do that in a professional manner and get those questions listed above answered please go ahead!

I've got no problem with these gun buy backs. The way I look at it is that if you don't have anymore sense than to sell your gun at one of these feel good stands, (not to mention sell your gun period), then you probably don't have enough sense to own it anyway.

I would like to think it would be legal (but it is NYC after all) to have some business cards printed up with the offer of a free firearms appraisal that could be handed out if you saw something truly priceless about to be thrown to the smelter (i.e. some old widow taking her husband's Artillery Luger or SAA Colt down there to get rid of it).

Didnt Chicago have a 6000 dollar buy back once? It would have been profitable to dump a bunch of ... junker guns that are not *ahem .. wanted.

you cannot buy gun in NYC without a permit to purchase, let alone transport one through the city, NY does not issue non-resident permits, i believe. basically, any gun you'd buy at a buyback would be hot.

we have a similar buy back here in LA on Mothers Day. They pay $100 per handgun $200 per rifle.

It was suggested we go buy old Moisin's for $89 from Big 5 and turn them in for $200. Sounds like a nice profit.

Unfortunately, the buy-back locations here are 90% within Fereral "gun free" school Zones.

I called the ATF and allerted them that anyone bringing a gun to the Police at these locations was violating federal Law and that the Network CBS, Mayor and Police were all culpable.

It looks like they will be changing locations.

I suggest you find out the locations. It any are within 1000 feet of a school It's illegal.

Ironically Funny that the LEO don't even know the law's they are supposed to enforce.

The last time NYC did a buyback, last April I believe, they were paying $200 for any working gun, and $20 for BB guns.

I turned in three guns and a non-working BB gun in a church in Brooklyn.

I did see a US marked 1873 Colt SAA handed in. I described this on this site last year. I asked one of the officers, all on loan from the range, if all guns were being destroyed, he answered yes. Even that Colt SAA? He thought about it for a second, and said, thankfully, "that one will probably go back to Rodman's Neck (the range) for research purposes."

Whether it actually made it back to the range, or went home with someone else, I was glad at least it wasn't going to be destroyed.

I had three guns that were of marginal value, and would have been hard to sell. The BB gun was worthless.

I took the $620 and bought a new gun for myself and one for my son.

We are enjoying the Marlin 70 PPS and the Mossberg 500 Marine Coating.

Couldn't a guy hang around and catch people before they bring their guns in? Maybe get some deals on some firearms?

Oh for the love of....
I enjoy this forum very much, but some members need to stop.
Before you send off a post to the O.P., please know what you are talking about.
Some of the replies and what they "suggest" will land a person in a NYC jail. Maybe a nice stay at club fed if they're really lucky.

How do I know? I'm NYC born and raised and lived there for most of my adult life (so far). I made my trips to the range according to the local government/N.Y.P.D. guidelines. To say it was a pain in the arse to own firearms and make trips to the range, much less buying ammunition, is putting it very lightly.

Seenterman, check this page out. If you value your freedom, and don't want to have a room at Chateau Riker's (Riker's island... or worse), familiarize yourself with the laws, both state and city.

That said, I love my home city, but it's a love/hate relationship.
So when the opportunity arose to move, I moved to Florida! I'll never forget when I went to my first gun show and a seller said to me(after he learned I was a yankee) "Welcome to the real America!".

I almost cried tears of joy.

Need to find one of them $200 buybacks and someone with a C&R should snatch up all the $75 Nagant revolvers or "gunsmiths specials" and rusty old recievers on Gunbroker and go trade em in.

If they buy these guns and then give them to
(supposedly)
the scrap metal peeps to destroy.

Didn't they just do straw purchases?
Shouldn't the ATF be there to arrest these gov. thugs? lol

"Couldn't a guy hang around and catch people before they bring their guns in?
Maybe get some deals on some firearms?"

And what would the difference be at that point between you and any other illegal gun deal done on a streetcorner?

Needless to say after I saw what was being turned in, I thought about the exact same thing, but I came to the above conclusion.

anyone know for sure how much they are paying? Would love to just hang out there,,, and see if anyone wanted to sell their good firearm for more... ship to ffl if need be.

Would love to have a $200 buyback plan for rifles in the local area. I have one that isn't worth spit. $200 would go a long ways towards getting me a nice used rifle or another handgun...

I read where a gun club got a bunch of junker guns together, took them to a buy back program and used the proceds to buy new rifles for a youth training program. Pretty smart huh!

The buyback that I participated in in Brooklyn was funded by Chase Bank, and the cards handed out were to be cashed at Chase ATMs.
