Newbie out to buy first ar-15

Hey there, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster.
I'm looking into buying my first EBR. I think I'm going to get a Stag Arms lower half (with collapsible 6-position stock), and slap a mid-length RRA A4 upper (w/ chrome-lined barrel) on it. For optics, I'm thinking an Aimpoint CompM2. I would like BUIS so I want a flip-up rear. Any suggestions on a good (but reasonably priced (it is back-up after all) rear flip-up?
Does that set up sound pretty solid? Any suggestions for improvement? Are there any other companies that offer a better mid-length upper at a cost comparable to the RRA? I'm very new to all of this so pretty much anything would help.
btw this would be for range fun and for any potential social work out to 100yd.

You are going to have so much fun. Stag Arms and RRA are a great combo. Grab a copy of Shotgun News at the book store. There are plenty of Uppers, part kits and specific advertising for AR 15s. Make sure you do your legal home work for Illinois. All I can remember is that the state is not gun friendly.

AS far a BUIS go: Troy for folding, Larue for fixed. Both are very rugged and easy to use.

I've got pretty much the setup you're describing. Aimpoint M4s with a Larue fixed BUIS behind it. I don't even see the irons when I'm using the sight and the fixed BUIS eliminates 1 more failure point.

I've done a 4 day class with that rifle and have used it at our local matches. It works pretty darn good.

for the BUIS, it depends on how much you want to spend. I haven't heard anything bad about any major companies.

My rifle has a flip-up rear sight by Midwest Industries that ran about $95 from bravoco., and it is sturdy and works just fine.

and I also just noticed that you are in Illinois. I hope you aren't in Chicago, and hope that the state laws aren't going to be too bad on you in acquiring what you want.

I agree, BCM is the best thing going.

How about a CMMG mid-length upper? How would that compare in quality to a BCM? It would be easier on my wallet.
And thanks for the sympathy regarding my location guys. I plan to get out of Illinois as soon as I can. Thankfully I'm located in the southern/sane half, so I don't have to deal with any of the Chicago/ Cook county BS.

I live in the Chicago suburbs. Hardly AR-friendly, but the laws are actually no worse in the Chicago suburbs than they are elsewhere in the state.

I just picked up a CMMG lower and a Rock River upper at a local outfit. They go together like peas and carrots.
