Just wanted to say hey. I probably wont post much for now since I'm still lurking and reading up. I'm a newbie to the firearm world. The guys around here are showing me the ropes and all. I just figured I'd introduce myself and say hi. Here's the gun I purchased last Sunday, April 18, 2004. A stainless steel Kimber Custom II .45. Already bought a second clip and a better grip for it. I'm happy with it so far. I can already tell I'll be a 1911 fan for a long time.

Welcome, brother!

Nobody beat up on him for not knowing the difference between a clip and a mag.

Mags fully encase ammo, whereas clips do not. There are some other differences, but that's the main one.

Guess I havent read enough then. Hahaha. Thanks for the welcome. I'm still trying to learn all the lingo and such. Like I said, I've never owned a gun before sunday. Within the first two days I put over 550 rounds through it. I can tell already I'm going to be a freaking nut.

Wecome to THR! We are all here travelling the same road of learning. Some of us are just a little further along than others.

Welcome, Integraholic.

550 rounds in your first two days? Good on ya! Maybe your next gun related purchase should be a reloader :D

No kidding. When I met up with him on Monday to shoot, he brought 200 rounds. The extra 100 was "just in case.";)

He had to go buy another 150 before he left.

I forsee a .22 or 9x19 in his near future to keep his ammo costs down.

keep that man away from rifles or he'll be sendin 200 bucks down range every trip like Artherd does when we head out. you'd swear rosie odonel, hilary clinton, ted kennedy, diana feinstein, and ellen tauscher were down range the way we wing lead down range :D

And of course welcome

Already bought a second clip...
No one has yet told me how you get one of these:

aside from a copious amount of force with a heavy blunt instrument, which effectively renders the Kimber a brick. :scrutiny:

J/K Integraholic. Welcome!:)

And you will find no smarter smart@$$ comments than here! :p

But seriously, your first gun was a kimber?? Isn't that like learning how to drive in a Ferrari? :uhoh: But I'm just jealous... Welcome!

Hi! Welcome! That's a Hogue grip on your Kimber, right? I like 'em. Nicce first gun. I'm jealous.

We look forward to having you around. Remember, the only stupid question is the unasked question. And if you read it all before you post, you'll never get around to posting.

(Mags have springs, clips don't.)

Here here.
Check out 1911 Tuner. He hangs out in the gunsmithing section. Since you have a 1911, there will be tons of info and tons of modifications/tweaks you can learn.
To set you straight: Clips, like the m1 Garand's 8 round 'en-bloc' clip and the WWII bolt-action 'stripper clips' used by just about every country besides the U.S. only hold ammo. They have no role in feeding the rounds. Magazines have springs, and push a round upwards after one is shot. The mag versus clip thing is a big pet peeve for people here.

Ask some questions, even if you think they are stupid.
Oh, and check here for a full description and some nice pictures of the internals of a 1911. Looks complex at first, but after you read over it a few times it all comes together.

welcome! and after you shoot 500 rounds, its required that you show us what kind of groups you are getting. it will set the tone for the rest of your existance: be ribbed for shooting shotgun patterns, or get a head nod out of respect.

i finally got my first head nod last weekend. i decided to run a few mags shooting one handed, and loaded 9 magazines up. i dont recall what sequence i did them in, but i ended up with 5 magazines lefty and 4 righty. (if i was thinking clearer i would have done another mag with the righty to even things up.)
but i wound up with a 3 inch ragged hole made by 56 rounds, and the remaining 16 rounds only increased the total size to 5 inches.
now it was only at 7 yards, but the last time i tried any one handed shooting, i was all over the place. i kept waiting for a flyers to ruin the target, but they never came!

i also wound up on another target getting three in the 10-ring. i dont do that often!

Hot Damn!!!!! A Kimber for a first gun. You're starting right. Glad to see you didn't by some hunk of scrape metal that malfunctioned every other shot. Nothing takes the fun out of shooting like something you can't shoot a full mag out of with a malfunction. Anywho, welcome to the fun world of guns. Many years of happy shootin' to ya.

Congratulations on a great first gun. You MUST have done some reading to have come up with that, hehehe.

I think this is only my second post here. I have been mostly over on Glocktalk, though I have been shooting for about 6 years.

My first gun was a Ruger Mk. II Target, which I think would be about the only smarter choice than yours, ;) My second gun was a Ruger P90. While not in the same "caliber" as a Kimber, it is just as reliable and half as much dough. My next handgun may just be a Kimber 45, hehehe. I have a Glock 34 on the way now though; the rest of my tax refund.

Reloading is a LOT of fun; as much fun as shooting if you ask me. If you're interested in getting started reloading, check my reloading page:

He DID make sure to take his targets home, so there is no excuse for him to not post pics.

Welcome, Integraholic! For someone new to firearms, you sure know how to pick 'em!;) Some of us have been longing for a Kimber for a long time, ya know!:banghead: ;) Glad you like to shoot, keep hanging around, you'll learn lots! (Some of it is even true!:D )

Howdy Integraholic!

Nice choice on your 1st pistol. I'm happy for you... really! :p I'm well on my way down the gun nu... er, firearms enthusiast trail, and haven't achieved that goal yet. It must be pretty sweet at 500+ rds a trip. I have a feeling you have just begun a collection. Have fun, keep safe.
