I had the pleasure of taking a lady friend of mine to the range today. There was no need for conversion as she is pro rights. In her early thirties, she had not fired a weapon since her teen years.
After getting ammo, targets, etc. we went downstairsto the range. The first ten minutes was spent in general safety review, range etiquette, firearm function and dry fire. Then more review. When satisfied that we were not gonna hurt one another or anyone else, I started her off with my 1911a1. After instructing her in loading a magazine, charging the weapon and stance, we ran the target out to 7 yards. I told her to concentrate on the front sight, level her breathing and squeeze.
BLAM...first round just above and to the left of the X. Next 6 were in the 9 and 10 rings. She seemed a natural with a weapon that can be difficult to shoot accurately for some. All told we went through 50 rounds of .45 ACP and about thirty of 9MM Makarov. She had no desire to shoot the 12 ga. pump shotty that I brought along.
We will have to plan to go out again and shop around for a .45 for her. After that, maybe her CCW. I was quite impressed.
