New to reloading and have limited pistol powders (Trailboss, Titegroup and Red Dot). Loading .45 ACP with Berrys 185 grain HBRN bullet but can't find reloading data to match up. Recommendations/recipes given these powders? Thanks much.

Hi GW. Welcome to the site! If you go to the Alliant website they list red dot for 200 gr bullet. Check what they recommend for a starting load (usually 10% below max). The hodgdon site has data for titegroup. Read the stickys at the beginning of the forum for invaluable info from a group of guys that have forgotten more than I know about hand loading! Take the time and $$$ to invest in reloading books, they will help you reach your goals and enjoy the hobby safely. I have found some good buys online at the half price books marketplace site. I dont load that caliber, so i have no personal recipes to share. Hope this helps.

For the Berry's Plated bullet you use Lead to Mid data jacketed. I do not use any of those powders so I can't help you with the load. But I do shoot that bullet all the time. I have found if you go over mid data jacketed the accuracy drops off. The best accuracy is found at 0.2gr below that mid data.

Use only enough TC to remove the flare to keep from damaging the plating.

Hodgdon and Alliant will both send you their published load data for cheap. It takes them a few weeks to turn the order around, but the price is right and gives you something tangible while at the bench.

The powder MFR books along with the Lyman or Lee books (or both) will give you tons of resources. After you've been doing this a while you'll be able to better interpolate the numbers for bullet / powder combinations that aren't published but have something close.

Potatohead, correct. When you read through Alliant's disclaimer, it tells you to reduce the load by 10% when starting off.

Hodgdon shows a 180 gr. LFN that has Titegroup and Trail Boss data. That is where I'd start anyway. I have loaded the Berry's 185 gr. HBRN with other powders. I set the OAL at 1.250". Hope that gives you a starting point.

Recommendations/recipes given these powders?

I'd forget about using Trail Boss for an autoloading pistol load. It is a good powder for what it is designed for, but autoloaders aren't it.

Red Dot should work. I'll check a few sources and see if I can find some data and post a link for you if I do.

I definitely recommend reading the sticky about getting started reloading. It has some great info in it.

Welcome to THR and happy loading.

I just went to the Hodgdon site and there are no 180 grain loads for .45 ACP listed with Trailboss. Can you provide a link to where you found that please? Maybe I'm overlooking something.

EDIT: NEVER MIND. I FOUND IT. I'M STUPID

Gotta say, I'm surprised.

Paul, did you select IMR and Hodgdon powders as an option?

Paul, I didn't see your edit until after I posted this. I guess we tend to over look some things.

Red dot seems to be my favorite powder so far for .45, although i load 230gr plated RN. So i cant be of much help with the 185gr.
