Right now in the safe I have a WWI 1911 carbonia blue repro, a 5.5" nickel plated SAA in .45 Colt, and an 1861 Navy repro (NOT the Signature Series).

Thinking about adding another Colt for the kids/grandkids to fight over.

Would a new, blued Gold Cup National Match be a good addition? It's the one with the spur hammer, rounded slide top (no rib) and newer Colt rear sight (looks like a
Bo-Mar, not an Elliason)

Would a case-colored blue 4.75" SAA be better?

Or maybe an old Det. Spec. new in the box??

I'd like stay in the $1200 range.

I would also consider the Colt CCG, Concealed Carry Government, which I can get NIB for $1130.

The final option is a Special Combat Government, but those are going for $2000, and for that money I'd rather have an LB TRS.

Personally I like the Colt GC NM guns with a focus on the Series 70 guns. However, that being just my taste. While I haven't a clue what a Series 80 GC NM goes for these days, that would be my choice that or a Series 70 gun.

I have two blued GCNM at local gun stores; one is $1,200, the other is $1,170.

Depending on condition those are good prices for my area. Do you know if they are Series 70 or Series 80 guns? I see a nice Colt GC NM Series 70 for $1200 and I buy it in a heartbeat.

Are your grandkids old enough to shoot? If so, why not take them shopping with you? Picking out Grandpop's new gun and shooting it with him is what will make it a cherished piece for one of them when it's not yours anymore. (Of course they may still treasure a piece they receive someday knowing it was yours at some point but the one you shared with them will be more special.)

All that being, said you've got the classic versions covered. My vote would be for a modern revolver or a 1911. If it has to be a Colt I'm thinking either a Python or Anaconda; or an XSE, SCG or the CCG you mentioned.

Please send me a PM if you're interested in adopting another Grandchild :D

Are you buying this to be a shooter for you, that they will happen to inherit? Or are you buying it to stay NIB and appreciate value for them?

Hi Ben,

As a shooter. And, if it's a modern gun (not BP or SAA) it could see some holster time. As a rule I carry S&W stainless revolvers for SD. But I carried a 1911 for a long time. I'm leaning toward the Series 80 Gold Cup or the Concealed Carry Government (CCG). One of the Gold Cups I looked at has a great trigger. The CCG is a great package, though. And there's only $30 difference between the two.
